Week 2 Fixtures already proving difficult to predict after the first rounds results, specially as every fixture has a team who lost last week facing a team with a win on the board.

Blaydon Vs York
Based on last season and York being the team to get the win at Blaydon I’m going for York to get off to the perfect start and Blaydon scratching their heads
York Win

Cleckheaton Vs Selby
Cleckheaton will certainly be licking a few wounds after last week’s results. Selby on a high after a fantastic win.
If the Cleckheaton of last season show up then Selby could be brought back down to earth this weekend.
Not very confident Cleckheaton Win

Heath vs Percy Park
Heath won’t be happy with last weeks results. And after seeing Percy Park last week I think they will come unstuck here. Heaths pitch won’t give them the space they have at home, and Heath defence will soon stop them from attempting to run everything out of the 22.
This could be a big score for Heath if they want to make a statement.
Heath Win

Huddersfield vs Scunthorpe
My preseason league favourites vs the side I’m backing as a dark horse for top spot.
If Huddersfield have any hopes of bouncing back then beating Scunny at home has to be where it starts.
But I think Scunny will do it again this weekend
Scunthorpe Win

Ilkley vs Alnwick
2 home games on the bounce will give Ilkley plenty of confidence. And think a deflated Alnwick could be the answer to the perfect start to the campaign
Ilkley Win

Driffield vs Sandal
Fantastic result for Sandal, and a hit and miss performance for Driffield.
Always a physical game, and Driffield will need to reduce the error count they had last week.
Woldsmen at home will be looking to bounce back
Driffield Win

Good analysis  by Differ Lid.

Blaydon v York - Yorks for me.

Cleck v Selby - narrow home win.

Heath v Percy Park - comfortable home win.

Hudds v Scunthorpe - I too fancy Scunny for this.

Ilkley v Alnwick - three big injuries for Ilkley, but they should have enough to take this one.

Driff v Sandal - the Woldsmen get back on the horse.

Blaydon will be wanting to kick start their season but think York may have enough to take this one. York

Cleck v Selby tough to call. Cleck usually decent on their own turf but Selby may be able to build on their great start.
Selby win.

Heath v PP
PP to succumb to the honey monsters. Can’t see anything other than comfortable home win
Heath win

Huddersfield v Scunny

After last weeks results common sense indicates a Scunny win but not as comfortable for them this week.
Scunny win

Ilkley v Alnwick

Another home win for Ilkley who will be cocker hoop with lasts weeks victory. Another early night for PS
Ilkley win

Driff v Sandal
Probably the toughest one to call this week.
Driff will be wanting to get their campaign up and running. But Sandal can be belligerent.
Close home win

York scrapped and scraped a narrow win at Blaydon 22-25
Just about deserved it.

Driffield came out flying today. Gave Sandal nothing to play with in the first 40. With the slight wind in Driffield favour and Sandal down to 13 men for a period, the Woldsmen built a 31-0 lead at half time.

The game look done, and Sandal looked to have no answers.

But a very dramatic game of 2 half’s saw everything go sandals way after half time. Penalty count, points scored, card count.
7-26 second half.

It was a very odd game, but some really positive signs from the new coaching setup, and a really good 5 points at home.

Scunthorpe again making statements, Percy Park and Selby found out how tough this league can be away from home!
Brilliant start to the season

I was away in Northern Ireland golfing, so had to listen to bits of the live commentary on Drystone radio. And no early night, I can assure you !

It seemed that with three key players missing, Ilkley did not perform as well as they might, but eventually took the lead 13-10 with ten minutes or so left.

Alnwick got a hotly-disputed 40/20 line in the last two minutes, Ilkley conceded a penalty and Alnwick kicked it to level the match. I’m not unhappy to have missed it…

Blaydon have two or three stand out players and that was nearly enough for them to shade a scrappy game, largely due to a whistle happy ref.
York bossed scrum time, Blaydon the line outs with impressive drives from tail ball, which York should have learnt from but never seemed to.
Blaydon 9 was all over Atkinson, mainly from offside positions and despite being warned several times by the ref he inexplicably failed to penalize, which meant like all good players , he pushed his luck time and again.
Blaydon 12 dominated the mid field and powerful in attack and defense in equal measure.
Blaydon a 15 was not only quick but bounced off several York tacklers until they remembered you need legs to run.
An interesting tactic probably happened on by accident by the Blaydon pack saw an early engagement being penalsised with a free kick. Which forced York to tap from the position of the scrum rather then shoving their opponents back 10yards at a time, giving themselves a chance to defend rather than retreat with the back foot.
York were hanging on in the end and Blaydon may rue the decision to go for the corner and the win rather than kick the very kickable penalty and take a 3 point draw.
Much for York to work on in prep for Cleck this week.
But 2 wins on the road to start the season a decent return.
