Alnwick v Blaydon
Given Blaydon form on the road and Alnwick normal home form a home win would be the sensible prediction. But after watching Blaydon last week, if they can get parity in the scrums this will be a close game. Possible draw but just a home win.
Percy Park v Ilkley
After the opening day turn over of Heath you would think that Ilkley would be a force this season. But last weeks home draw v Alnwick lends me to think PP on the home turf will shade this one.
PP home win
Sandal v Heath
Probably the toughest game to predict in this weeks fixtures. Sandal at home can be belligerent to say the least. But can the handle the Heath honey monsters in the pack? If they can another narrow home win will be on the cards. But  I think Heath might just shade this.
Heath win
Scunny v Driffield
A decent test for Scunny this week maybe? But Scunny ae decent at home and have recruited so mean business.
Can’t see anything other than comfortable home win.
Scunny win
Selby v Huddersfield
Interesting clash this. Selby at home even when struggling are always difficult to put to bed.
But Selby aren’t struggling they are looking decent and Huddersfield are struggling. So Selby home win but Huddersfield need to wake up sometime or NE2 beckons.
Still Selby win
York v Cleckheaton
York scraped past Blaydon last week, but they scraped past!
On the hallowed turf of Clifton park it will be a clash of the 10’s
The difference being is Shackleton will probably have a dominant pack in front of him.
Tight to half time then York to put it together for a comfortable home win

Nearly got full marks last week, as did others, but thanks to the draw at Stack’s Field…

Alnwick v Blaydon - something of a local derby. Neither side seems to be as strong as last year, so home win, just.

Percy Park v Ilkley - after getting the Heath result wrong, I’m not going to back against the Dalesmen for the rest of the season, but this will be tough. Very !

Sandal v Heath - the Halifax Heavies seem to be back on form and I think they will nick this.

Scunthorpe v Driffield - got to go home win for this. Scunny look much stronger this season and Driff less so.

Selby v Huddersfield - now this is interesting. Another loss and you could say Hudds are in trouble, but I think they will just have enough to win this one.

York v Cleckheaton - when they’ve found the pitch, Cleck will put up a fight, but I’m backing York for this.

I’m told that Driffield have 9 at a wedding this weekend, so this could be very one sided in favor of Scunny!

Back after a week away on my jolly’s….

Alnwick v Blaydon - The Battle of the A1. Alnwick with a bit more consistency in the squad. Blaydon to score a few points but Alnwick to to nick it.

PP v Ilkley - Park travelled to Heath with a shell of a side. Lots returning to the team. Ilkley will be sore after a tough draw when they expected a win. Home Win.

Sandal v Heath - Heath are huge. I think they will continue the gain traction after week 1s loss. Heath by 30.

Scunthorpe v Driffield - gut feeling is driff don’t like travelling this year. Scun with some signings which will strengthen their home form. Scun win.

Selby v Huddersfield - Selby by 20. No idea why.

York v Cleckheaton - York to grind a win at Clifton. Predicting a scrappy set piecey game.

Week 3 and the first 2 weekends of results certainly make the league look incredibly competitive. I think it also shows that squad depth is going to be key!

Alnwick Vs Blaydon
Let’s assume that Alnwicks opening weekend result against York was a blip and the draw was a good result against Ilkley. Also going to assume Blaydon will again struggle to win away.
Alnwick Win

Percy Park Vs Ilkley
Well Percy Park might be a little shell shocked after last week. And welcoming the Ilkley back line to the big pitch of Percy Park won’t be an appealing prospect. Only saving grace is they won’t kick it down Magee’s  throat.
A high scoring game and Ilkley Win

Sandal Vs Heath
If the Sandal from the second half against Driffield show up for the full 80 minutes then they will be able to beat anyone. Heath will feel rejuvenate after beating Percy Park.
But I’m going for a bold Sandal Win at home.

Selby Vs Huddersfield
Well I think Selby could make Huddersfield’s start go from bad to worse. Think this will be another high scoring game.
Narrow Selby Win

York Vs Cleckheaton
York with the first home game of the season. Will be loving the start under the new coaching regime.
Cleckheaton won’t be looking forward to this I don’t imagine
Large York Win

Scunthorpe vs Driffield
Well the high flying Scunthorpe are not going to be an easy team to face this season. However better this time of year than the depths of winter. Seeing that forwards are already dominating the scoring and the professional backrow in the centres they clearly will be a physical test.
I’m going for the Woldsmen to come through this Test.
Driffield Win

PP certainly won’t kick it down Magee’s throat - he’s not playing ! Wrist is in pot since the Heath game.

Oh that’s not ideal. Hopefully a speedy recovery.

Ilkley managed to pull a defeat from the jaws of victory today.

14.3 up at half time against a PP side that looked totally disorganised, they scored in the first minute of the second half to make it 21.3.

But that was it. PP put on some fat lads and Ilkley capitulated, coughing up penalty after penalty and conceding an astounding 26 unanswered points, not even getting a losing BP.

It’s been a long journey home.

And as for Heath !! What ?

Echoing PS what on earth is going on with Heath?
Has the Selby bubble burst?
Scunny just scraped past Driffield, did they have 9 missing at a wedding or was that just a smoke screen?

Result obviously not what Driffield wanted, but a really even contest, and a really good performance. Some young players really starting to find their feet.

Driffield must of thought the game was done with 5 minutes to go and up by 6 points, it looked all Driffield. But Scunthorpe kept coming and scored in the corner with 2 minutes left to play.
Scunthorpes kicker had left his boots at home all day until the kick that counted. Slotting the touchline conversion to win the game.

Yes Driffield had a number of players away at a wedding across first team and second team squad. 5 changes from last weeks team because of unavailability. But don’t think that had any bearing on the game, and don’t think the squad would say that was the reason the result didn’t go their way.

Scunthorpe look to play more then last season with the physicality of the forwards they have always had, think they will do well, but don’t imagine they will challenge York who I think will now be my favourites.

I imagine Heath will stay quiet on the forum.

Thanks Differ lad for the update. I was beginning to think Scunny were going to walk it, the way they were going on!
York were a different class today to Cleck on a perfect day for expansive open rugby. But still relied on scrum dominance and some sparking intervention s from their back line returning kicks and tearing the chase apart. That said they crafted a couple of 15 man tries which would have graced any rugby field.
Cleck could have capitulated but to their credit they didn’t. They stuck the best they were able to the task. They weren’t helped by 3 yellows. 2 for technical offenses in a scrum that was under pressure throughout. But the gobby scrum half’s for dissent was inexcusable.
3 from 3 but still room to improve, but all round a decent day at the office for York.

Scunny look a much better side then last year. But don’t think they have the depth for a proper league push. They played some nice rugby and moved the ball a lot more than expected.
The forwards are reliant on driving mauls. They used a very questionable 5m penalty driving maul today. It was certainly obstruction as pre bound and blocking of the ball carrier. But the referee allowed it on a couple of occasions and they scored from one of these illegal preset mauls

Disappointing that there is no news from some who have posted regularly on the forum.

Interesting game in the A1 derby today. Alnwick look a shadow of themselves. Lots of changes.

From the look on the faces, this win did the Blaydon lot a huge boost in confidence.

Reports from the south of county was a game of 2 half’s. All Ilkley one. All Park the next.
