Predictions for this weekend?

Salem Vs Ponte (Game of the day)
Tough place to go is Salem, small pitch and suits them well. That said, Ponte will love the physicality and can see this being a close game. If Salem have their 15 playing & fit I think he could be the difference - Salem W

Goole Vs Old Brods - Old Brods to continue their impressive start vs a struggling Goole side. Old Brods W

Moortown Vs Wetherby - Tough one to call, I watched Wetherby last week and they impressed me in the 2nd half. But you can never write off town at home (or anywhere). I think Weth pack might "just" get them over the line - Wetherby W

Morley Vs Scarbs - Another tricky one, both teams have started relatively well but I can't look past Morley at home. Morley W

Old Crocs V Rochdale - Seen little of the two sides, so not in a position to say too much. But from what I hear Rochdale are the team to beat. - Rochdale W

Malton Vs Donny P - Malton looked really off colour and a lot smaller than usual last week.. That being said, the forecast of rain might mean more of the farmer boys are available. Two early season strugglers, controversial - Draw

Best of luck to all, some cracking games!

Salem Vs Ponte - having watched our lads play both these sides its a really tough one to call and may well come down to which side keeps 15 men on the pitch for the most time. Going with home adv to have Salem win.

Goole Vs Old Brods - Goole a tough place to go get a win but on early form hard to see past OBs 3-0 record against Gooles 0-3 so going for an Old Brods win.

Moortown Vs Wetherby - No surprise here in me backing my own side going for a Wetherby win

Morley Vs Scarbs - Cant see many sides getting a win away at Morley and would be surprised if Scarborough are one of them going for a Morley win

Old Crocs V Rochdale - Rochdale 3-0 and OCs dont seem to have hit form yet but always been a tough away game so going with home adv and a Old Crocs win.

Malton Vs Donny P - Malton started well against us last week but their defence seemed a bit leaky when pu under presure which was added to with a number of injuries which will no doubt test their strengh in depth, that being said from reports i heard back they have a number of lads in the 2s that wont look out of place stepping up. Suspect a lot will depend on how the youngsters stepping up cope without some key old heads to guide them but going for the pride in the Jersey at home for the lads stepping up to see them over the line with a Malton win

Salem v Ponte – Tough opening start of the season for Ponte with 3 away games. Think it will be a close game but home advantage just making the difference.

Goole v Old Brods – Bonus point win for Brods.

Moortown v Wetherby – Moortown to win by plenty.

Morley v Scarborough – Close game but just fancy Scarborough.

Old Crocs v Rochdale – Rochdale but not by many.

M&N v Donny P -Massive game for both clubs, while things can change quickly in this league bring zero from four is difficult to recover from. With no confidence going for a home win.

Salem v Ponte – Ponte happy with two bonus points last week with a lot of players unavailable. Should be better this week and going to go out on a limb and say Ponte to win by more than a score.

Goole v Old Brods – Goole will get better and get some wins but although I think it will be close go for Brods.

Moortown v Wetherby – Moortown a tough place to go and go for a home win but Wetherby will be no pushovers.

Morley v Scarborough – Both teams look set for solid seasons in the top half of the league. Draw

Old Crocs v Rochdale – Rochdale to win but they will have to win the arm wrestle early on.

M&N v Donny P -Surprised both these aren't doing better but Donny to win a close one.

Scarborough lost by 3. I wasn't there but very close game they could have won.

Another great game at Salem on Saturday. Ponte will be disappointed to miss out on their first win of the season, but they're a sound squad.

Salem learning from each outing about what is required to get across the line.

Huddersfield this weekend, another epic challenge then across to Brods.

What a great league to be in and no team is to be underestimated.

What did $alem learn this week?
If you throw enough money at something, eventually it will all work out?

With the Championship and SL season coming to the end now, will salem be looking to field an all semi-pro rl XV at any point this season?

It's the same old discussion.....

No problem with throwing money at a team as long as you build a club at the same time.

Sadly it seems that isn't the case here.

However it's a free world and if it's someones hobby to pay for better players then good luck to them. I wonder if in a few years time when he tired of handing the cash over and the party ends - he'll look around the club and think he could have made better long term use of his investment. That's not meant to provoke an argument, it's simply my view on how to invest in, and run, a club for the long term.

Indeed the same old discussion friend, we are pretty lucky to have these fine men want to join our small club.

ABR in answer to your second question, who knows. We'll all have to wait and see. I'm not close enough to the inner workings.  But it appears you may know more than I.

Wouldn't that be a spectacle?

But lets look at it in a different light, why can't they join the club because they love playing grassroots.

Why can't they join because its the first time their families have felt like a part of a family in years?

Why can't they join because the guys they play with actually keep them grounded and remind them why they actually started playing in the first place?

Sometimes we forget what our great game can do for others.

You may think what I'm saying is utter rubbish, but heyho.

A little context may help - over half the squad have either 50 or 100 Salem 1st team caps and from memory a 3rd of this squad Salem junior graduates.

Two parting thoughts

1 - The game is bigger than any one man.

2 - And watch out for the prop or flanker who will sidestep the winger and chip over the fullback.

If I was going to join a family, it wouldn’t be one whose house is up for sale and can’t afford to pay their bills!

All fair points...

But if the cash isn't there then the "family" aspect goes out the window.

Its great to see clubs like Salem go up the leagues but its only short term success and building for the now Vs the future.

When the money tap stops so does the success look what happened with their neighbours at Bees..

Also your point around 3rd of the Salem team being junior grads is a muted point as I would probably see that as one of the lowest in the league :)

Again, good to see clubs like Salem doing well but I worry about their long term sustainability.

I see Salem 2's have conceded todays home game against Rish.

I believe Salem have managed to field a second team on approx 3/4 occasions in the past 4 yrs. Maybe they should start paying second team players?!

Tells you all you need to know about a 'family' club.
