Blaydon v Percy Park

A nice North East derby! Blaydon been struggling a bit so far this season & Percy Park been somewhat of a surprise package but backing Blaydon here in a close win on the artificial pitch.

Cleckheaton v Ilkley

Reckon it's going to be another close game but backing Cleckheaton just with home advantage as it's one of the most difficult places in this league for opposition teams to visit.

Huddersfield v Heath

Another derby game. Battle of the big packs. Could go either way but backing Huddersfield just with home advantage.

Selby v Scunthorpe

Can't see anything other than a convincing away win here.

York v Sandal

Another close game in store, York to win just.

Alnwick v Driffield

Alnwick seem to be on the up the last few weeks, beating Huddersfield and narrowly losing at Scunthorpe so backing them here to win in a close game.

I agree RB toughest week to call so far, for me.

With the exception of Selby, I think narrow home wins are on the cards for the other 5 fixtures.

Next two games will define Yorks season in the league, in my view.
Sandal deservedly beat us at home last season, in probably the worst rain scrawl I have ever seen a rugby match played in. York had lost a few key players by that point in the season and that defeat put paid to any hope of promotion. Thank goodness as far as I was concerned.
This time York, I believe , have virtually everyone available so no excuses.  They will need to find that top gear though, to get anything out of this game and Scunny away the week after.

Blaydon v Percy Park

After watching all of the NE teams, I'm backing Park in this derby. They've played some excellent rugby just seem to lack consistency.

Cleckheaton v Ilkley

Cleck will be strong at home. Ilkley to build on a good home win against Blaydon. Cleck by 3.

Huddersfield v Heath

Heath to steal it. I feel this will game will be physical.

Selby v Scunthorpe

Scunny by 40.

York v Sandal

York looked average last week so I'm going to say Sandal comfortably.

Alnwick v Driffield

Alnwick have a few players back, James Bird and their ex falcons coach back playing. I think they will get another win after a long trip to the top of Northumberland

Blaydon vs Percy Park
Only 2 seasons ago Blaydon playing in Nat 2 and Percy Park in Regional 2, so the PP lads will be well up for taking on the neighbours. Form says this should be Percy Parks game to win. But think the plastic pitch should favour Blaydon.
Blaydon Win

Cleckheaton vs Ilkley
Cleckheaton at home are clearly a different beast to Cleckheaton on the road. So will have to go with the Cleck heavies and the firing backs to do a job on Ilkley.
Cleckheaton Win

Huddersfield Vs Heath
MOTD this will be a big physical contest and a battle of the boot for Johnson & Milner. If Huddersfield don’t have a replacement for Thompson at loosehead who got a red card after the game on Saturday then Heath should have it at scrum time. Home advantage again for the local derby.
Huddersfield Win

Selby Vs Scunthorpe
Not sure this needs much explanation
Scunthorpe Win

York Vs Sandal
Close second for MOTD, and this will give a proper idea if Sandal are capable of maintaining pressure on Scunthorpe. I get a feeling that Sandals fantastic start to the season might hit a speed bump here.
York Win

Alnwick vs Driffield
A long bus trip for the Woldsmen, but a decent club to visit and always a good contest between these sides. With Alnwicks faulting start to the season and the Woldsmens away form not being fantastic this is a hard one to call. But have the back Driffield to get the job done and the first away win of the season.
Driffield Win

Blaydon v Percy Park

Blaydon need a result after only securing one victory against Alnwick this year. With a resurgent back line I can see Blaydon securing a bonus point win and percy Park leaving with nothing. Blaydon.

Cleckheaton v Ilkley

If Ilkley put out a similar team to last week they might give Cleckheaton problems. But I can't see anything other than a Cleckheaton win. Cleck

Huddersfield v Heath

A strong battle up front is expected here and one which I think heath might edge. But I think the home advantage for Huddersfield will get them home. Huddersfield not by many.

Selby v Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe by a lot.

York v Sandal

York not the same York of last year... Sandal playing well and delivering results most weeks. Sandal.

Alnwick v Driffield

Driffield and Alwnick aren't going to well this year but it's a bloody long trip. Alwnick in a low scoring game.

Alnwick v Driffield - an attractive fixture for sure. I just fancy Alnwick to do one on Driff.

Blaydon v Percy Park - the fantastic plastic makes a huge difference, so home win by not many.

Cleckheaton v Ilkley - the Dalesmen’s backs were on great form last week, but they got plenty of ball. I suspect they won’t today, so regrettably going for another home win, with maybe a point or two for Ilkley.

Huddersfield v Heath - another grunting competition. A draw on form, or another narrow win For Hudds.

Selby v Scunthorpe - on paper, the easiest pick of the day. Oh so comfortable for Scunny.

York v Sandal - I think Sandal will have the edge needed to scrape home here.

Ilkley Win away at  Cleckheaton!
28-40 I am told.
Nobody predicted that?
Any other final scores?

So delighted with the bonus point win. No one expected that. 5 yellows for Cleck though ?

28 - 3 to Alnwick and could of been a lot more.
Driffield defended well in the 22 and held Alnwick up 4 or 5 times, but that’s about all Driffield had to shout about today.

Not getting off the bus is probably the best way to describe what I watched today.
Whenever in possession Driffield would look one dimensional or knock on or get stripped of the ball.
Lineouts which have been one of Driffield strengths in all games this season looked like a completely different team to previous weeks.
Defence outside of the 22 looked very easy for Alnwick to pick apart.

A game to move on from rather quickly for Driffield, nothing much to take from it.

Well played to Alnwick a massive 5 points.

An ongoing observation over a few seasons and not directed specifically at todays Match Official, as the result was not based on his decision in the slightest. The quality of the Yorkshire Referees in comparison to the North East referees is worlds apart. It’s like a different game at times. Not sure if others have found the same?

perhaps a bracing walk on that beautiful Alnmouth beach will be a reward for your efforts to support your team Differ lad?
I do agree the North East refs have a slight leaning to the North East sides from my experience but it comes with playing at this level , and their interpretation of the laws.
Alnwick have been better in the last few weeks , so their win doesn’t surprise but the margin of the victory does!

Wouldn’t say they lean more towards the North East sides, just interpretation is different.
2 tries first half 2 tries second half. It was the lack of scoring opportunities for Driffield that was disappointing.

I feared the worse for York today, Sandal on it and York not quite firing.
But York were back to the performance level that took them to the top of this league this time last season.
A tight first 15 minutes saw the sides 0-0 with D well on top
Then out of nowhere almost, York clicked and scored 3 sparkling tries. With Sandal responding with a converted try of their own in between.
Almost unexplainable York went off the boil and had Sandal managed to capitalize on their dominance before half time I think they would have found some extra momentum for the second  half.
At halftime York regrouped and basically put the game beyond doubt with a couple of well constructed tries.
Credit to Sandal they didn’t roll over and scored 2 more converted tries which their effort deserved. Then York also need another mention as the kept a determined Sandal out preventing the bonus point.
Good game fair result and York will need more of the same away at Scunny in a couple of weeks time!
