Acklam have given us a walkover on saturday which whilst understandable is disappointing. The game being sponsored etc.
Over all the comps this year and last there has been a 50% walkover rate over all comps and only an average of 58 clubs entering the four comps in total each year. Prior to the leagues there was three comps each with 32 teams in and fiercely contested. What do the plain facts staring people in the face tell them. That we must persevere with comps dying on their feet or instigate change. Why not get yorkshire leagues to 14 teams and help in the sustainability of grass roots clubs.

19 W/Os so far this season. I suspect that figure will increase before the weekend.

Whats Happened to Dinnington. Given a w/o by Keighley in the last round then vanished from sight. Can only assume they have withdrawn from the competition. Am I correct.

The Final was moved a week later this year, even though last year it was already 5 weeks after the final league game last season.
We arranged a tour at the end of May hoping it would avoid clashes with any potential cup fixtures.

YRFU making it hard for teams to commit to a tournament that has ever changing dates and concludes over a month after the league has ended. They wonder why teams are dropping out left, right and centre.

Fair point BW and good on Keighley for going on tour - that's a dying trend too. Whilst some teams like Ripon remain enthused at the prospect of cup runs, it's easy to see why others don't see them as relevant any more and about time YRU and RFU listened to the subliminal messages as well as the more obvious ones. Next thing you know, we'll have 10 team divisions and everything done by Christmas. Four extra months for shopping and family stuff - what a horrible prospect!

But you gave a walkover last season. 🙄
Regarding the RFU and making life difficult, i agree. Remember their mantra for player welfare and family time?
In Regional 1 &2 they've scheduled league fixtures for 21st Dec. That's right, Day after mad Friday and 2 days before Xmas when those who do travel away for Xmas will be gone. Counties finish on the 14th.
You couldn't make it up.

Sail By,
welcomor away.e back after a self imposed exile. I fully take your point but would it be too much to ask the button pressers at the RFU who run the fixture programmes to ensure that on key dates (such as 21st Dec) that there were local games which would ensure maximun revenue and therefore help in clubs sustainability. I know its an impossible ask as they simply dont care and have all got ZERO geographical knowledge of where any clubs are in relation to each other.
For the clubs in NE2 on the 21st how about this for a set of games, irrespective of who is at home,

Malton v Scarbs
Rochdale v Crocs
Salem v Brods
Weth v Moortown
Morley v Ponte
Goole v Phoenix

Those games would make a much better point for your argument rather than the travelling that the current fixtures involve. PLEASE when can we ever expect the powers that be start to support the clubs in terms of increased revenue. After all four years ago clubs got about £400 towards travel to a long away fixture when buses cost about £500. Now they nothing and the same buses cost approx £900. Where do these people think that community clubs get that sort of money from. They have their heads buried in the sand and will simply not listen to reason. Its their way or no way. The bubble will eventually burst when our county has lost maybe another 15 clubs in the next 10 years. Do they really care. I personally think not as they are too full of their own corporate opinions to listen to sense.
Rant over. Opinions please

Thanks for the reminder Stell, not wanting to sound overly defensive, but the walkover last season was a rare occurrence due to extenuating circumstances. Ripon remain enthusiastic about cups and genuinely try to fulfil fixtures.

Flaggy, the RFU can do it and do!

As most of you are aware I spend a lot of time watching national league now where the Christmas fixtures are fantastic;

Sheff v Sheff Tigers
Leeds v Otley
Hull I's v Hull
Wharfedale v Harrogate
Billingham v Tyndale
Lymm v Chester
Grasshoppers v Fylde

So I would question the team that do the regional fixtures!

Isn’t it the same people who do the fixtures for these leagues. In my day it was Snowdons agency  and I’m assuming they still do them?

Its like trying to talk sense to Santa Claus on the mid summer solstice. If you can tell us who to approach then fine. However that does not resolve the issue of cup comps being poorly supported and 14 team leagues at counties level would be the single biggest help in sustaining clubs viability.

Absolutely ridiculous... Whoever deemed that a good idea needs to give their head a wobble...
