If they want to join the leagues then fair play to them...

I still struggle to understand the point of their club though when we play at the same ground and offer a better standard of rugby for any colts coming through the Doncaster junior setup.

Because you're buying lots of new players this summer, and they probably won't get in your team.  ::)

Could not agree more vole. got to say i,m a little surprised that The RDO has not tried to get Amatuers to see the light, ie already a team and structure in place at the same ground that fulfills the RFU criteria of pathway progression from Jnr to senior rugby and player retention.

Short term this could cost both sides. If Amateurs are allowed in, the better players should with any sense gravitate towards the Higher side (or is this why they wanted to be let in at Y2 so they could really stuff Pheonix?) as we all know ELITE players often have little allegiance to a particular club other than whats best for them (Tammo played for Pheonix not for Amateurs), so why spend 3-5 seasons possibly getting to Y2  this could long term lead to the death of one or the other, how is this good for rugby in doncaster. Or will the Amateurs committee make Pheonix a offer they can,t refuse to amalgamate and "take" their position in Y2

If its the same ethos that has Directed the Doncaster Mini /jnr section then asked the other Yorkshire/SY mini.jnr teams for their opinion of how they regard Doncaster  and you may find the reason for their unpopularity

i,d vote against it as its not needed and would serve no other function than to let certain individuals get their way (Why not be part of Pheonix? all their wishes would be acheived good facilities, in Y2 and constitution in place). if the kids they have coached behaved like this they,d tell them to put their ego,s away and grow up

More the merrier!! Forgetting the politics in doncatser rugby, if a new team wants to join then let them in as long as they meet the required criteria yorkshire ask for. York 5 is struggling with numbers due to the restructuring of the higher league due to team northumbria dropping out. I personally believe any team within the yorkshire boundary wanting to join the league should be allowed as long as they meet criterias and believe they can forfill fixtures. Whitby should be allowed to join too

So who are Phoenix spending their money on - didn't realise they had much money or indeed paid their players.

We don't and we aren't! I think WL was doing a bit of fishing!

We have a new coach who gets paid a small amount but that's it...

Surely the aim of every rugby club is to provide access to play a game from the age of 7 to 57. As far as I can see there is already a structure in place at Doncaster that fulfils this. Creating something new appears pointless, will be of little benefit to anyone and to the dereriment of many.

All the teams in Y5 should be aware that Doncaster Amateurs originally applied to join Y2 this season and claimed to the YRFU that they were the dogs doodars and easily good enough to play at that standard.

I might be proven wrong but Y5 is the wrong place for them - they should be higher.  However, I think it is wrong that they should be allowed into the league at all as the step up into senior rugby is already there in Phoenix and those who could not make it at Phoenix could have gone to Thorne in Y3.  They could even have gone to other local clubs.  Doncaster really does not need another club and I worry that this could have a detrimental effect on the other clubs in the area in that they could lose players to the amateurs.  Is there any truth to the rumour that Wheatley Lad has already been approached?

Wheatley Lad has been approached to leave Wheatley Hills in NE1 to join the amateurs in Y5!?
