Does the Y1 fixture draw make a difference to success?
backrowbandit:
Over the last few years in Y1 (and probably most other leagues - and field sports!), some teams have been markedly better on hard grounds and conversely others are stronger when its heavy underfoot.
Taking an average winter, Sept, Oct, early Nov, late march and April should be dry. (as an aside it makes you wonder why so few games in April!) And late Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb and early March will be wetter. Now I know this isn't always the case and there are significant exceptions but this is relatively standard.
So if a "heavy ground" team happened to draw Driffield in Nov and Feb, could this make a significant difference to both teams chances? And vice-versa?
Do these things even themselves out?
And who are the hard ground teams and who the soft?
Sot ground - Dinno, North Ribb, Barnsley, Wath ???
Hard ground - Driff, Brid, Ponte ???
Burnsy:
Are you saying Scabs are rubbish on both grounds?
backrowbandit:
Or good on both?
Red Devil:
I've often wondered why, at the half way stage why the fixtures are reversed rather than repeated. The point is; if you come across a team that beats you on a soft ground and you play them late in the first cycle in december you are going to meet them again in the early part of of the second cycle in Jan. If the programme was repeated the same draw would see you play in Dec and then towards the end of the season in supposed dryer, firmer conditions.
This said some pitches drain a lot better than others, our at dinn is based on the top of a sandstone hill and I don't think many will remember having a particular muddy game at lodge lane. Maybe we should water the pitch a bit more!
backrowbandit:
Just to add to that, there is no imagination one season to the next. Each season is more or less a rerun of the last. Scabs are playing the same teams at more or less the same time.
