At the start of this season 2 Yorkshire match officials came forward to propose that as a group across the county we should have a charity day whereby referees (including National Panel and North Group referees) were invited to donate some, or all, of their match day expenses to a nominated charity. It was agreed that this should take place and eventually the day selected was Saturday 18th February (yep tomorrow). There is a purely voluntary affair and the suggestion has been met by a lot of positivity and support from referees across the County.
The charity selected for this first charity day is the charity proposed by the 2 guys who came forward with the idea. It is a Harrogate based charity called "Our Angels". As a Registered Charity, Our Angels undertakes a wide range of projects with three overarching purposes - to provide comfort and support to families who have suffered an early pregnancy loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death; to work in partnership with health professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care and support; and to raise awareness of the tragedy of baby loss and to promote research and activity that could help to reduce this.
It seemed to be absolutely the right charity to support because if the 2 guys had not come forward with the proposal we would not be doing anything.
So why am I putting this on here. First of all awareness of the fact that this is happening but secondly if you feel like making a contribution to the fund, either as individuals or as a club then you will need to know how to do it. There have already been club contributions which is great.
If you would like to donate then please do so using the link below. Following on from Saturday's efforts we will of course let you know how much was raised and how the money will be used.www.justgiving.com/fundraising/YRS
