I know someone who has spent the last 5 years negotiating contracts for pitch works at Scabs and has built up a list of best prices for:

Vertidraining
Top dressing
Drill seeding
Fert prices
Sports sand direct purchase
Secondary drainage
Equipment hire and purchase

If anyone wants some names of contractors or an idea of market prices for pitch renovations (major or seasonal) then PM me.....

Likewise other clubs/people might have contacts we can share.....

Have clubs close to each other ever thought about coordinating your end of season renovations. Say Knotta, Cas and Ponte, you could agree joint terms for all the work to run part concurrently and part consecutively at all three grounds – you would save an absolute fortune!!

Lastly – did everyone know that there are RFU funded tractors and vertidrainers for clubs to use at cost?? Below is the list of clubs that host the kit, if you don’t use this service the you should as all you pay is transport and labour – there is no margin and no capital contribution. Could be wrong BRB but I believe the tractor at Crocs is kept at Rishies and is a jointly used by all 6 Calderdale clubs for verti draing etc. This again I believe was funded by RFU and I would have thought that clubs in close proximty to each other could do similar through their RDO.

The tractor in Calderdale used to be stored at Old Crossleyans. It has never been at Old Rishworthians. Anyway whatever contract was in existence has ended and the tractor is no more. Lack of use by the 6 Calderdale Clubs.

The Calderdale tractor/vertidraner is located at Old Crocs as they have a secure garage for it. I believe only they and the Vandals use it. It is not insured as Crocs deemed it too expensive, therefore creating a transportation issue for whoever uses it.

Good way of ensuring that no one else uses it 😄😏

It has also not been maintained adequately from what I have been told, the vertidrainer tines being in particularly poor condition.
Cue howls of indignation from The Can Man.

Tines need replacing every year or two so that's no great drama. We have our own and as the times wear down we just put a new set on.

However there are several grease points that need regular maintenance.

I'm fairly certain Vandals used this without the proper insurance. And the condition of it at the time looked far from safe
