Respect to Moortown
« on: March 10, 2018, 11:26:17 PM »
As 1st team manager at Old Rish I would like to say a massive thank you to Carl and the Moortown lads for donating the gate money and raffle money to the Lewis Hilton foundation in aid of meningitis. This club gets loads of grief. But playing them over the last 5 years I think it’s unfounded.

Fantastic gesture. A great example of the rugby family coming together for a great cause.
The pub is as much a part of rugby as is the playing field.

Nice to hear - as is said however, this club does come in for some periodic controversy, so on the basis of no smoke without fire, it begs the question: is the controversial stuff reserved for particular fixtures / individuals? If so, who and why?

Why, when a club are given credit for generous act, are you still continuing to try and drag their name and reputation through the mud?
Why not do as others have and compliment them on their generosity and leave it at that?

Just curious as you do have something of the Jeckyl and Hyde about the place, given other posts I've read over the seasons. Are you saying they are totally without substance?
Anyway, thank you for the offer to continue the debate!

I'm saying that in my two visits there and the two times we've hosted them there has been tough on field rivalry for 80 minutes, with no more than the usual and tolerated level of needle, followed by handshakes and pats on the back after the whistle. Rugby as it should be.

It's the "usual and tolerated" bit that is interesting.

Anybody else care to comment?

Very well said, exactly my thoughts.

It would be a nice gesture as a rugby family if all clubs donated one home gate in support of this worthy cause!
