Title: Saturday 11th Scores
Post by: backrowbandit on September 11, 2021, 12:50:37 PM
So before a game is kicked off we hear that:

1) Pock v B&B is as B&B can't raise a side

2) Durham are playing unregistered players!

Interesting start to the season.

Let try and keep scores updated today if we can..

Good luck all.

The sun was shining on a busy Silver Royd and regardless of the result Im just delighted that we have rugby back being played.

18-18 with 1 minute left on the clock. Scarborough had just missed out on scoring near the Heath line but the away side weren't to be beaten. They ended up in the Scarborough 22 and scored at the death to win the match 18 -25

It was a hugely entertaining match which was very well refereed by the ageless Andy Baker. He got the balance right between a fair contest at the breakdown, letting the game flow and quick ball.

I was very impressed with Heath especially in the first half. Scarborough found some rhythm in the second half and will be disappointed they didn't grab the win or at least a draw.

Heath loose head, the big old lock and fly half were all good and Scarborough flyhalf was outstanding along with some other fine performances across the team.

You always want your team to win and it hurts when they don't - but after 18 months of no rugby I'm happy to be just back seeing grassroots sports entertain so many people.

Both teams will take plenty of positives from today but only Heath will take the win!

Very much a game of two halves at Morpeth, Ilkley taking a slim 5.3 in at half-time.

The Ilkley pack had just about got on top of their hosts’ after 40 minutes and that augured well for the second half. So it proved, as the visitors scored four unanswered tries for their second bonus-point win.

Next week, it’s old Brods. Not played them for years, but they’ve had a great start too, so it should be a close game.

Away in Sunny Durham today.

A fast start from the home side saw them go into a 20-0 lead after 20 mins. Then some game changing subs from the little angry man in the dugout.

The remaining game scored 5-42 with Town scoring 6 converted tries.

Consett at Stade de Moss next, couldn’t tell you the last time we played. So not sure what to expect 🤷🏼???

Good win for Brods today. Nothing fancy but some superb defence throughout and tackling that any team would have been proud of. Brods played downhill in the first half and good forward play that Morley had no answer to built up a 19-0 first half lead. Playing down the famous Brods slope in the second half Morley never looked liked they were able to overcome the Brods defence and they struggled to find any way through the Brods solid tackling. Morley got a breakaway try towards the end but ultimately they were never really in the game. I’m sure Brods will come up against much stiffer opposition in games to come but they must be very satisfied with the start they’ve made in NE1.

Nice to be watching rugby again isn’t it … not at Brods obvs they’re playing a defensive game this year .. plus the cheating gits are still using that rock run instead of a rugby pitch .

😂 I suppose whoever is playing up Ben Nevis has much option but to play a defensive game!

Watched Brods yesterday, not much in the sides just Brods played their pitch better and didn’t allow the game to flow when Morley had the advantage of the slope.
I thought the Ref was excellent, stamped his authority early and made no obvious mistakes… except there were two 22m drop outs, both from the ball being grounded over the try line from an attacking kick.  I thought this was now a goal line drop out, am I mistaken?

PS nice of Durham to register their players this week 🙊

Interesting to see the punishment handed down. A certain North Leeds club were handed a hefty points deduction many moons ago.

No you are not mistaken "naughty boy". An attacking kick that goes in goal, and is made dead by the defence, now results in a "goal line drop out". I have every sympathy with the ref given, like the players, they have all had so much time off, and not much time pre season to embed these global law trials into their routines. This one does feel counter intuitive. I know this because, having seen a referee, at National 1, give this correctly last week, I was convinced he had got it wrong until a check on the World Rugby website confirmed that he, like you, had got it right.

One of the best referees we have had in a very long time. Very impressive.
