Note that Bishop Auckland have just cancelled all rugby activities until the 3rd April at least. Is this likely to be the case for all clubs after this weekend?

Not necessarily, quite a few options including a sort of 'pools panel'

Power to vary, disapply, amend or make further regulations during the season
13.1.3 In the event that the Committee considers it is in the interests of rugby union football
or an RFU Competition, it may amend or vary RFU Regulation 13 and the Appendices
and/or make further regulations during a Season:
(a) where in the view of the Committee exceptional and material circumstances
have occurred during any RFU Competition which either have not been
provided for or cannot be equitably dealt with under RFU Regulation 13
(particularly if promotion or relegation is likely to be materially affected), the
Committee may at its own instigation introduce regulations for the current
Season and/or determine the results of matches that have not been played for
reasons related to the above exceptional and material circumstances and/or
determine which Clubs should or should not be relegated)

Time for a breakaway to an actual rugby ground or a takeover of the sports centre you're based at!

Doing my Euromillions ticket now!

The Rugby club have to obtain revenue from lunches (7 a year) because unlike a lot of clubs the Sports Club profits are split between, cricket, tennis, squash and rugby

Ah Stubby if only that were the case, not a profit share but a refund on the levy we pay. We can’t compete with the revenue raising capability of the likes of Scarborough, but we do ok on very little revenue.

Hey Porkies,

I wasn't too upset about being ushered out and our very own Chairman of Social Events said he was extremely well looked after at the dinner, (I was called at 16:00 on Friday otherwise we would have had more attend and was worried we would come across rude).

I was just concerned our travelling fans which include some Mums and youngsters only had crisps as a purchase option....You must be missing a trick selling warm food on a Saturday? As for the old boy......No idea what his issue was and maybe I misinterpreted his rudeness, I've been called worse  :P

Much like bar revenue, we don’t have control over the catering facilities or options available to visitors to Clifton Park. Reiterate apologies for any issues you may have encountered, there was a great atmosphere post match in the bars with players, coaches and supporters of both teams seeming to enjoy each other’s company.

I feel pretty sure that your remonstrations will have struck a chord by now DAA and I bet that the officer of the club in charge of crowd control has been summoned from above to discuss his plans to ensure that abusive and foul mouthed behaviour is not allowed to raise its head at Silver Royd Palace.

No doubt there are already notices placed in strategic positions around the clubhouse and ground to remind everyone that such behaviour is unbecoming especially at an establishment that prides itself on its sportsmanship and welcoming atmosphere towards all guests.

Incidentally I got sidetracked a little with all this excitement but if Scarborough charge £7.00 for all visitors to SR why don’t other clubs put up their price when they play Scarborough at home?
Time to move on. I agree. Not sure why Scarborough have put their prices up. They obviously don’t need the extra revenue.
York have recently put their entry fee up to £6 from £5 last season. But they do need the extra revenue as that is amongst the few revenue gathering opportunities they have in place. Unfortunately the sizable bar take during the rugby season goes to York sports club and not the Rugby club.
I see the argument for putting entry fees up for Scarborough visitors, but that would hardly be worth the trouble, they certainly don’t visit York in any great numbers.

Strictly speaking we had to put our entry fee to £6 this season as we went over the threshold for VAT registration, so the £6 this season is in fact £5 + VAT

Very close game today at Silver Royd.  Scarbs were in control & ahead 21-3 in 2nd half and should have closed the game down.  York are a very good attacking team & load their back line well on the front foot. Scarbs discipline let them down with penalties given away in the 2nd half especially at the scrum. The ex-Scarbs lock Cade really didn’t make much difference in the game but it was really good to see him & his ex Scarbs team mates reacquainting at full time, especially given the quite pantomime-esk uproar on his yellow.  Despite what others might have said on this forum I thought Cade was a great player for Scarbs &  I was sad to see him go; I hope York are able to offer him what he is looking for.  Great cross field kick to the York winger for their last minute try. Good consistent reffing that Scarbs didn’t adapt to.  Game could have gone either way, but York played really well & deserved their win, no complaints....... good luck to both teams for the rest of the season. Clubhouse was rammed afterwards, great to see 👍

Thank you for this considered and measured report.

Wonder if the new Scarborough recruit goes straight into the big game.  Massive ask for him.
Our close season recruit from Scarborough is very much looking forward to starting and has sorted out post match beers with last years skipper so no animosity his end.

I find the assertion that something posted on this forum is not strictly true outrageous!

Pre-season starts at York on Tues 2nd July from 7pm, we are also running S&C sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from now to July. Failing that we also have touch rugby going on at the same times.
