Title: Predictions 25/10
Post by: oldtimerugby on Oct 21, 2025, 10:01 AM
One more round until many teams earn a well deserved break unless, of course, teams are still involved in the Yorkshire Cup. Another round of interesting fixtures and one where there is the potential again for a couple of upsets.

Moortown v Bradford Salem

This will be interesting to see just where both teams are at with Salem managing to get across the line against M&N whilst Moortown lost out in a close game to Pontefract last week. I am going for a low scoring win for Salem.

Morley v Pontefract

It's 5th v 6th in this one with both teams winning their last games. I expect this to be a tougher test for Morley than against Donny P, however, backing them to get the win with a bonus point.

Old Crocs v Doncaster Phoenix

Somewhat of a shock result for Crocs last week and it sounds even more impressive after reading the match report, having travelled with 16 players and losing one within the first 5 minutes! It sounds like their squad is stretched already, however, they will have too much for what seems to be a poor Phoenix side. If Phoenix lose this weekend, it will leave them already cut adrift from the teams above.

Pocklington v Wetherby

Game of the week for me. Pock are evidently on a high and the only thing that may stand in their way is a little bit of complacency. Wetherby will be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Crocs, however, I think the Pock pack will bully them upfront. Fairly close home win for Pock, no bonus point.

Malton & Norton v Old Brods

Brods are still going well after another win v Selby last weekend and will be looking to maintain their push towards the top of the league. However, M&N on their own patch is never an easy game and I am backing an upset here this week. Narrow M&N win.

Selby v Scarborough

Selby's bag of mixed results continues and whilst I think they will put up a decent fight, Scarborough should have too much for them. They will also be determined to write a few wrongs from last weekend and I can see them getting back on track with a routine win this week.

Town vs Salem - Salems new signging to have a fine debut. Salem +7

Morley vs Ponte - Morley back to business again after a rocky few weeks. Expect them to win - Morley +7

Old crocs vs Donny - Crocs to get on a roll, last week will have given them some confidence. Crocs +7

Pock vs Wetherby - Pock on a roll, Wetherby looking to bounce back. I hear Wetherby are short and relying on their junior section this weekend. Wetherby -7

Malton vs Brods - Brods playing some attractive ball, but Malton are no mugs. Brods -7

Selby vs Scarborough - Scarborough will be licking their wounds. I think Selby cause an upset. Selby +7

Town vs Salem - Are Moortown playing Salem at the wrong time or the other way around? Most people will be expecting Salem to walk this but to think they are in for a surprise.

Morley vs Ponte - Morley should do the business at home although Ponte will fight hard.

Old crocs vs Donny - Crocs could have been 3 from 3....they certainly will win this one with a bit to spare.

Pock vs Wetherby - Two surprises last week, the win for Pock and the loss for Wetherby. This will be an almighty fight. I can't see everything falling so favourably for Pock two weeks in a row but they should win.

Malton vs Brods - Ive changed my mind a few times about this one. Malton normally find a bit more at home but Brods will be tough. I'm going for a draw.

Selby vs Scarborough - If a team can lose but still be the form side then that's Selby. Their last two matches have been away at good teams and both the scoreline and match reports suggest that they should/could have won. This will not be an easy place for Scarborough to bounce back.

Town vs Salem - town back in front of the mob should be enough. Town -7

Morley vs Ponte - Morley to start finding their feet again. Morley +7

Old crocs vs Donny - crocs with an impressive win last week and will no doubt continue their form vs a poor Donny side. Crocs +7

Pock vs Wetherby - wishing well to the lad from last week. Wetherby a great outfit once their firing but feel pock will have too much at home. Pock -7

Malton vs Brods - Malton at home is a tough place to go. But brods to sneak a win and get back to their hill. Brods -7

Selby vs scarbs - Scarborough will want to bounce back after last week. But Selby are no push overs, with some expansive rugby. Going for a narrow home win. Selby -7

Old Crocs v Donny = Should be a bonus point wine by 20 odd for Crocs.

Morley v Ponte = Morley routine win. Can't see Ponte doing too much to trouble Morley but should get a couple tries.

Pocklington v Weatherby = Can Pock keep the momentum and can Wetherby bounce back... squad depth to be tested. Wishing the lad from Pock all the best after a bad injury. Wetherby to sneak it?

Selby v Scabs = match of the day. Scarborough to come undone I think and mayne stop getting the rub of the green with officials they got at the start of the season. Close Selby win if its the same team out as the last couple weeks.

M&N v Brods = Brods to get it over the line, Malton are tough to beat at their spot but can see Brods just having too much, wouldn't be surprised by a Malton win though.

Moortown vs Bradford Sea Eagles. Think the couple rughy league lads brought in will be enough of a boost for Salem and just edge out a high scoring match.

Malton vs Brods. Malton to just edge it at home. Malton -7

Moortown vs Salem. Heart wants to say Moortown but my head and Salem's cheque book is saying away Win. Salem +7

Morley vs Pontefract. Morley should have enough at home. Morley +7

Old Cross vs Phoenix. Battle of the bottom, Home win. Old Cross -7

Selby vs Scarborough. The away team to get back on track after last week. Scarborough +7

Pock vs Wetherby.  Game of the week for me. Home team to use home advantage. Pock -7

Town vs Salem - Could be a cracker, but fancy Moortown to edge it at home despite the best efforts of 'The Grim Reaper'. Town -7

Morley vs Ponte - Two similar sides in my opinion. Fancy Morley to nick this. Morley -7

Old crocs vs Donny - Crocs a much better side than their results so far suggest. Crocs +7

Pock vs Wetherby - A few changes for both sides on their teamsheets. Pock might have to start a man down if their right winger can't fight his way through the droves of minis and juniors wanting to touch his shirt. Wetherby -7

Malton vs Brods - Brods should have too much for Malton. Brods +7

Selby vs Scarborough - Tough away day. Waiting for Selby to really click into gear this season and reckon this could be the week. Selby +7

Town vs ₿R₳đƒOR₫ $₳Ł€₼ - This for me is game of the week after all the chat leading up to the introduction of some new money men. I think the Town side like to be underdogs and will relish the opportunity to face this calibre of player. Town also dismantled Salem midway through last season at Far Moss and i think they could again. Town +7

Morley vs Ponte - Morley win but the big Ponte pack will cause Morley some troubles. Morley -7

Old crocs vs Donny - Crocs to carry on from their win last week and put a potential cricket score past a bang average Donny side. Crocs +7

Pock vs Wetherby - If the Pock side worship the no.14 jersey before the game i can only see them winning. If not Wetherby to come fighting back after a disappointing loss last week. Wetherby -7

Malton vs Brods - Brods seem to keep getting over the line and i think they'll be right up there when it comes to the latter stages of the season but Malton is not an easy place to go. I think this could be a draw.

Selby vs Scarborough- Selby have just got better as the season has gone on and after the loss last week Scarborough will want to bounce back - this has the potential to be very high scoring. Selby -7 both teams TBP as well.

Moortown v Bradford Salem
Despite the "hype" think Moortwon at home will take the points here

Morley v Pontefract
Going for Morley at home.

Old Crocs v Doncaster Phoenix
Crocs to back up there performance last week with anouther win.

Pocklington v Wetherby
As always backing our lads wetherby win

Malton & Norton v Old Brods
M&N traditionally stronger at home so taking them to get the win here.

Selby v Scarborough
Expect Scarboro to get back on track with a win here.

Active week in the transfer market for Wetherby with MacKenzie Scurr and Harvey Ward coming in from Harrogate and Otley on the wings, though Ward is a 9. Loan signings presumably? Both very good players with bright futures though, interested to see how they get on.

No complaints from Scarborough today. Selby defended really well and played the breakdown well too. They had plenty of chances and took a good few of them.

Scarborough still suffering a bit of a hangover from last week and that mojo that has served them so well didn't return until the last quarter when our big ball carriers started to break clear. Sadly just too late; and if we'd scored in the last play of the game (which looked likely) it would have been harsh on Selby.

Taking positives, Scarborough battled to defend our line and managed to get ourselves back into contention.

Selby will be pleased how they played with a good mixture of grunt and pace.

The ref quietly got on with the game and dealt with the strong wind fairly. A very clean game played in good spirits with plenty of entertainment.

A week off to lick wounds.

All still to play for.

Not sure with Scurr as he started the first few games and scored a couple too.
Then just not on the team sheets as Gate also been putting out a twos in recent weeks

I watched Moortown vs Salem today - excellent game. Unfortunately town on the wrong end of the result. The town centres however dealt with the NRL players excellently and matched them them whole game. It was won upfront by Salem who dominated the Moortown pack the whole second half, this meant the exciting Moortown backs (when they got it which was very rare) struggled to make up for the forward dominance.

Thought Scurr played really well today, and the other winger on loan looked sharp too. Massive credit to the Wetherby pack who put Pock under pressure for the full 80. Great watch for anyone down at Percy Road this afternoon. Thoughts, Pock n Roll?

Pock probably best team ive seen Wetherby play in 3 seasons. Ten minute spell after half time turned the game. Wetherby should have taken a penalty to bring the game to 10-10 then found themselves 23-7 down 5 minutes later. Pock well drilled n first phases of play and look a team playing with confidence.

Well where to start Mr Roach, maybe I  just copy and paste BRBs observation of last week's results with a surprise win for Pock and a surprise loss for Wetherby? Maybe everything fell in our favour for a second week running?

On to the game and Pock dominated most of the first half without gaining the points to reflect that by half time, a very good first 15 of the second half saw us pull away with some great phase play, credit to the very good Wetherby side who stuck at it and attacked in the last quarter, making it another nervy finish for the Pock faithful.

Highlight of the game for me was seeing our ex rugby league convert, or "the fat lad" as he was so graciously described elsewhere on here, smash through the Wetherby defence and look to be going on to score only to be stopped just short.

Highlight of the whole day and possibly my 47 years on this planet, was finally getting to meet the current custodian of the hallowed 14 jersey, what a day to be alive!

Watched crocs yesterday. Finally started to click at Broomfield. Could be a long season for Donny.

Any more insight from across the league?

Also what's the play off structure

Ponte well beaten at Morley. Very flat.
They are struggling with injuries, but that doesn't excuse the woeful tackling and reluctance to go through the phases. Lacking leadership and direction on the field. To many players hiding. Fingers crossed they get some experienced player back for the next game against Crocs

Obviously very happy to take the win. It was a physical game, strength on both sides to be fair. A great game to watch. Some disappointing verbals from the "supporters" at moortown but is expected. Amusing when the town players started scrapping between themselves at the end. And a decent ref too

Agree on this. Morley dominated the game and it was essentially put to bed by half time. Ponte weren't helped by a yellow card in the first minute and a flurry of penalties for high tackles throughout the game. It was evident that Ponte were missing some of the more experienced players from last year, two of which appear to have joined the coaching staff.

Morley will be pleased to have registered back to back victories after a mixed few weeks. Next up for them it's a trip to Bradford Salem and their new recruits which should be a tasty affair.

Are Pocklington the new league favourites then with this win over Wetherby? Certainly seems so.

I wonder if Bradford Salem will start to have a charge up the league now with their recruits.

Lots of teams in touching distance. I also fear some strong teams will be in the relegation playoffs this year.

It would certainly seem that way at the moment. A seriously impressive start from them given they have played and beaten each of the top 6 teams. However, I think I stated on another post that there is still a lot of rugby to be played and season fatigue, injuries, availability, weather, rearranged games etc will still have a big part to play. It would be a monumental ask for a team to go unbeaten in this league and I don't think that will happen, however, they have given themselves a great chance at this stage of the season. It will be a very interesting next block in the run up to Christmas.

Pock are 100% favorites (and were mine at the beginning of the season along with Wetherby and Morley) - however I also agree no team will go unbeaten and there's a lot of rugby to be played yet.
