Old Brodleians v Pontefract
A game that should, in theory, see a routine home win. The predicted weather forecast and know how of Brods to manage the mountainous slope should be the difference between the two sides. However, Ponte will be buoyed by their Christmas dinner stuffing of Donny Phoenix and will put up a fight.
Pocklington v Old Crossleyans
A mid-season dip in the form of Pock? This will not be an easy game for them on the back of three straight losses. Backing them to wear down Crocs over the game and escape with a narrow victory to see them remain top at Christmas
Scarborough v Moortown
Scarborough should bag a fairly straightforward 5 points here against what I understand is a depleted Moortown. They never seem to be the best travelling team either.
Doncaster Phoenix v Bradford Salem
Cricket score to Salem.
Wetherby v Malton and Norton
This will be an interesting game. M&N seem to have had somewhat of a revival of late and they will be keen to maintain their progress up the table and put some distance between themselves and other teams around them. It seems Wetherby are having an injury or unavailability crisis and I may just back Malton to upset the odds.
Selby v Morley
Two teams who have been going relatively well of late. The game earlier in the season was tightly contested with Morley coming out on top. I expect the same sort of game here but backing Morley to continue their good form.

Apologies!
Donny P v $alem
I don't think we will see a rebirth of the Phoenix this season. The Money Men to put a ton past them this week.
Brods v Ponte
Brods managed to pull through in the Halifax derby last week and I think they'll carry on again this week. Ponte are yet to win away (other than Donny P) and i think that'll carry on again this week. Old BrodHILLeinas +7
Pock v Crocs
Pock to get back to winning ways this week and i think they'll go into Christmas top of the pile. Pock -7
Scarborough v Town
My MOTD. The Town 1s 2s and 3s are all aboard the bus heading to the East Coast this weekend and i suspect the atmosphere at Silver Royd will be something to behold. Town off the back of a slightly messy but strong win V Selby and they've shown they can beat the top teams in this league. Town to nick it at the death. Town -7
Selby v Morley
Selby at Far Moss at the weekend showed glimpses of what they're capable of. However, i think the Morley pack will be too strong at this time of year. Morley +7
Wetherby v M&N
Wetherby and M&N sit either side of the divide in the league at the moment a loss for Weth could drag them back in whereas a win for M&N might see them escape the tussle at the bottom. Wetherby home advantage to pull through. Wetherby -7
Donny P v Salem – Head says Salem but heart and Christmas says Phoenix. Going for a Phoenix win to set the club up for recovery in the new year.
Old Brods v Pontefract – A classic Yorkshire fixture that predates league rugby by decades. Home advantage to just decide Brods home win.
Pocklington v Old Crocs – Taking Pocklington to steady the ship and win.
Scarborough v Moortown – Can only see a Scarborough win.
Selby v Morley – Very close game but think Morley need the win most so just a Morley win.
Wetherby v M&N – The winner will be the side that wins the forward battle. Just an M&N win.
Doncaster Phoenix vs Bradford Salem - Bradford Salem by 20+. I worry for Phoenix, hopefully a change in fortune after Christmas and they keep going. If they have had an injury bout to add to a depleted squad then this period might be fruitful for returning lads.
Old Brodleians vs Pontefract - Pontefract will be betting on some home complacency just before Christmas - they will give this Brodleian team that seems to be scraping along a run for their money. As for the home team on their hill they could look to make a statement. Old Brodleians +7 but wouldn't be shocked if its a different outcome.
Pocklington vs Old Crossleyans - After watching Old Crossleyans at the Gannock I cannot see anything other than a cricket score to Pocklington who will see themselves as league favourites still. They seem to have had a few injuries return and will be gearing up for another barrelling charge at the league. Pocklington +7.
Scarborough vs Moortown - The unknown quantity that is Moortown will be up against a confident Scarborough looking to put on a Christmas show. Scarborough here by 20. I wonder who plays the better style of rugby? It feels as if Scarborough have adopted the style of Moortown.
Selby vs Morley - My MOTD and one I do not know the way it will go. Selby on their day are capable of beating anybody and I think Morley might lose this themselves by being too arrogant. The better club wins and Selby go into Christmas back in the play off hunt. Selby -7.
Wetherby vs Malton and Norton - the trip between counties here not as far as you'd think so would anticipate a good crowd from The Gannock to travel over. I think Wetherby will pose a serious physical challenge to Malton and think they will just have the edge, either way though I think the losing team returns to the clubhouse with 2 bonus points. Malton -2.
If anybody cares for a bit of Christmas fun - who would you like to see promoted?
Town were poor at home v Scabs earlier in the season, but it was close even then - well, up until the second half when they lost their way.
Expecting a good away win - be plenty of us going along this weekend.
Donny P v Salem – My hope is that Donny manage to field a team every week until the end of season. Hopefully if they have some players returning they will keep most matches below 50. It isn't long since they were throwing money around. I guess the music has stopped. Salem by a lot.
Old Brods v Pontefract – I'm not sure there will be too much entertainment on show here but Brods should grind out an easy win.
Pocklington v Old Crocs – The title favourites have had their wobble now and Old Crocs will struggle to get anything out of this fixture. Pock by at least 20.
Scarborough v Moortown – The Moortown Christmas jamboree to Scarborough always lifts Town to a higher level. I'm sure all the 2nd and 3rd team coming over to support will behave as most are on day release! Should be a very entertaining day.
Selby v Morley – Not an easy match to judge. Like most teams Selby improve at home but Morley going well. Draw.
Wetherby v M&N – I think home advantage will see Wetherby home. It also depends on how many Malton players have recovered after the physical battering they were given by Scarborough. Their 10 will be a loss if he hasn't recovered. Tight Wetherby win
DP vs Salem - unfortunately I can only see another loss by plenty.
Old Brods vs Ponte - Brods to win.
Scarborough v Town - can Town really beat the league favourites on there home patch, with the Silver Royd faithful in full voice? Can't see it myself, Scarborough win.
Pock v Croc's - some lads back for Pock and some now missing, Backing the boys to win a tight affair.
Selby v Morley - hard to predict this one, home advantage to see Selby win an entertaining match.
Wetherby v M&N - Wetherby to beat a gritty determined Malton side.
Donny P v $alem – Weekly yawn. $$$alem +7
Old Brods v Pontefract – Brods were very solid last week so can't see this being anything other than routine. Brods +7
Pocklington v Old Crocs – Not the game anyone wants before the Christmas break, especially if PockNRoll is right about returning players. Can't see the boys getting anything sadly. Pock +7
Scarborough v Moortown – Similar to the Brods game, should be routine for Scarborough. Scabs +7
Selby v Morley – MOTD. Tight high scoring affair. Selby -7
Wetherby v M&N – Not a clue really, M&N stringing some decent results together and wetherby unpredictable. M&N -7
Separate note, all this could go out of the window depending on Mad Friday Xmas do's.
Merry Christmas my forum friends.
I can see a clean sweep for the home sides this week (bar the obvious) surged by attendances and availability with travelling teams suffering.
Donny Poo v $alem – Ashes pt 2
Old Brods v Pontefract – Brods +7
Pocklington v Old Crocs – Pockroach cry more
Scarborough v Moortown – Scabs +7
Selby v Morley – Selby -7 few good results I think they'll bounce from this
Wetherby v M&N – Wetherby -7
Last weekend of the year and with 2 weeks off who knows what will happen in the new year in a tightly packed league which has shown anyone can beat anyone on their day apart from the obvious...
Could there be a few Christmas Do's tonight giving some lads a sore head on Saturday afternoon and make everything that little bit more interesting.
Donny P v $alem – We all know the score here unless a Christmas miracle is about to happen it will be a BP for Salem.
Old Brods v Pontefract – Its Brods prime time of the year bad weather and an awful hill ponte will struggle BP win for Brods.
Pocklington v Old Crocs – Can pock stop the downward spiral just before the break.... I think we will see another loss for them with Crocs only picking up 4 points.
Scarborough v Moortown – MOTD for me and if last week is anything to by it could get tasty at Silver Royd. Going for a Town BP win in a thrilling and entertaining game.
Selby v Morley – Morley to continue to push for top 3 with a BP win here.
Wetherby v M&N – Id like to see M&N get the W here but I cannot see them getting anything at Wetherby, Muddy upfront game Wetherby BP.

I watched the Scarborough match on VEO from the Alps.
Scarborough 48 - 33 Moortown
Scrappy match but Scarborough always on top.
I thought Moortown moved the ball very well and were unlucky with a couple of the tries they conceded.
I am aware how much we need refs and therefore I will not comment other than to say that:
a) please make use of our VEO to review the array of penalties given against Scarborough. It will be good for development - you may well think they were all justified but you have the opportunity to review.
b) specifically review the numerous times that the Moortown 10 kicked long with most of his team mates 15m in front of him. Most of which continued to sprint towards the ball. It got so ridiculous the Scarborough players were pointing it out to you and you just shouted at them to stop running. The laws changed a few years ago.... I accept it's much easier to see on a TV from a camera higher up.

Why isn't anyone congratulating me on my draw call??
Well done on your draw prediction BRB 🥸
Thank you....at least there is one gentleman left on this forum.
Quote from: backrowbandit on Dec 20, 2025, 05:58 PMWhy isn't anyone congratulating me on my draw call??
Credit where credit is due BRB, good call.
Some close games this week and just shows how competitive this league is, I think it's going to make for an exciting second half of the season, with the league winners still very hard to predict.
As Pock and Scarborough have shown, a team bang on form can easily go on a 3 game losing run and others that are struggling can click, and put together a good couple of wins and climb up the table.
What's your thoughts on the playoffs BRB?
Regarding the playoffs I would prefer 14 team leagues.
However as we currently have only 12 then the playoffs give something else to play for. I haven't fully read into them. I believe that 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th all play off presumably 2nd v 5th and 3rd v 4th.
If 2nd wins they'll be at home to the winner of 3rd v 4th, but what if 5th wins? Will they be home or away for the final?
Also presumably it's the same at the bottom. 11th, 10th, 9th and 8th (is this why Malton keep saying they're in the playoffs 🤣🤣)
So only 6th and 7th nothing to play for.
Happy to be corrected if wrong.
What about the league above and relegation? Have they got play offs?
In respect of the league, I couldn't agree more that there is a lot of road to drive yet. Both Scarborough and Pock will lose matches (not least as they are playing each other!) Two loses in a row and a team can drop several places if results are unfavorable.
It's "probably" between the top 4 now for 1st place judging by the table but by no means guaranteed. Pock and Scarborough have both played 6 home and 7 away so they both have a slight fixture home bias after Christmas.
Having looked at all the fixtures I think Pock have the slightly better run-in based on the fact they have Scarborough at home.
Old Brods and Morley could easily nip into 1st place if there are any more wobbles. Scarborough are away to Morley first match back - so that's going to be a serious test.
As ever, the single most important factor will be which set of players each team can field each week - injuries, unavailability, needy wives etc.... There's nothing that can be done about injuries but everything else is down to which squad really wants to pull out all the stops for promotion.
Donny are down - let's hope they don't fold.
Everyone has something to play for.
As I've only been following Pock for a couple of years I'm a relative newcomer so don't know much about how past leagues were structured, was it as simple as 14 teams, with two up two down? That would make sense to me being a layman.
I did try reading the promotion / relegation process for this year, but as with a lot of things RFU, it seems overly complicated and unorganized.
Ive never been a fan of the playoff format in league sports, and the possibility of 5th being promoted over a second place team does seem unfair, but as in a league like ours, 5th may only be a few points of the team finishing first!
It definitely adds jeopardy and gives teams something to play for leading up to the end of the season, wether they want to or not, I suppose we're all just going to have to see how it goes.
As you rightly say, availability, for whatever reason is the one constant that every club has to manage and that's what will ultimately decide the league. Whether it be clubs panicking and splashing the cash or one that gives the 2nd team lads the chance they deserve, either way it's the biggest factor on the final outcome.
Whatever happens between now and the end of the season, the best team will win the league and I'm looking forward to the battles to come 👍
The play-offs are somewhat more complicated than indicated, and for a team from 2-5 in the table to succeed in going up they will have to win four games, two from this league, one against the equivalent club from the North Level 6 division, then away to the Level 5 relegation play-off team -
The league winners automatically go straight up, the next 4 teams in the table will contest an 'Accession Play-off Quarter Final' at the end of April - 2 v 5 & 3 v 4. Those two winners play an 'Accession Play-off Semi Final' tie the following week, and the Regional 2 North East winner then faces the Regional 2 North winner at the ground of the side with the best league record. The winning club from that game travels to play the 10th or 11th team from the league above that has lost in the 'Regional 1 Survival Play-offs', with promotion or relegation to/from Level 5 up for grabs.
It's a bit simpler at the other end of our division, the team in 12th goes down, and 10 v 11 play off for survival or relegation.
Crumbs...there's a lot going on there.

Thanks for that MrP, took a few reads to understand, but definitely understand it better now (I think)
So the attraction of going back to 14 league team is a guaranteed 4 games that can be planned for accordingly?
I imagine uncertainty with how many games teams still may or may not have to play can cause logistical problems for clubs?
You can't beat having guaranteed fixtures that you know the date about months in advance.

Sorry if I'm asking questions that probably seem obvious to more experienced forum members, why did the RFU decide to cut it to 12, and do you think it'll ever go back?
The reason why is disputed. They claimed it was to reduce travel and because players wanted to play less rugby.
It's out for consultation at the moment about a return but the RFU are reluctant.
Thanks for the insight 👍
Because they are muppets and don't relate to grassroots rugby teams that are asking for 14 team leagues that enable enough fixtures through out the season without the need for scenarios at the end of the season that may or may not benefit clubs. Two additional games guarantees much needed income

They also said players wanted fewer games - so they introduced a meaningful cup competition to replace the lost league games. You know, the one that no one wanted, pizz pot cup.
The play offs were touted as providing extra revenue for clubs.
Terry Burwell was silent on how that works.
The only jeopardy it has introduced is teams fighting to ensure they don't finish higher than 6th.

So it's just a matter of the authorities getting it wrong and not wanting to lose face to the " we told you so" gang?
Is there anyone on here that is in favour of the playoffs that could offer a different opinion to the pro -14 supporters? Would be interested to hear another take.
Excellent hospitality and a good game at Selby yesterday, a thoroughly entertaining 80 minutes though the quality of rugby in parts was 'top drawer' in places in wasn't.
Parity in the scrum, though Selby took the line out honours. In the loose it was again a fair 'arm wrestle'. Selby were a little more accurate with the boot and this brought much of their success.
A try in the last play took Morley to within 2 points and a successful last kick conversion showed nerves of steel from the Morley 10.
Selby will be disappointed that they couldn't hold on for the victory, Morley will just be disappointed,
One final word for the ref, who again had a good game and proved why he is held in such high regard.
When he reviews the game, he will be kicking himself over Selby's 2nd try. He was in the right position but simply did not see the knock on, it happens at this level.
Every coach at every level in every game says; "Play to the whistle", it cost us dearly today.
Quote from: backrowbandit on Dec 20, 2025, 03:54 PMI watched the Scarborough match on VEO from the Alps.
I would certainly agree that the refereeing of the offside at kicks was not good which gave the opposition a big advantage. There were also some extremely questionable penalties given against Scarborough. Unfortunately Scarborough suffered from the same poor officiating of players in front of the kicker against Malton again affording Malton a big advantage.
Have you actually surveyed your players about how many games they want to play, or is it just at committee level who want 14 team leagues?
Yes..
