150 is very impressive.
Very impressive and so sad to see where the club is now.
The first ever game of rugby played in Barnsley took place on 10th January 1874 at Shaw Lane, Barnsley's home ground today.
150 years of rugby in Barnsley
The book tells the story of rugby in Barnsley over the past one hundred and fifty years. The highs and lows, the clubs that appeared, seemed to become established, and then disappeared and the clubs that are in existence today. The book isn't a history of Barnsley rugby union club although as that club has been around for one hundred and twenty two years much of the rugby activity between 1902 and 2024 does involve the rugby union club. Both codes are featured but the story begins in December 1873 with the emergence in Barnsley of a club playing the version of football that we know today as rugby.
