I have personally sent a correspondance to the chair of the North Organising committee asking if we can dovetail the Y3 fixture with our Scarbs fixture so we can send two teams on a coach reducing our costs by over £1000.

I'll ask the rugby guys. However my immediate thoughts is that I'm not too keen. Now that the 2nd team are in a league in their own right we were planning to treat them as though they were a 1st team in the league they are in. So there will be pre-match hospitality, programme and dare I say maybe a modest door charge (if that is the done thing at Y3). We don't really see them as a 2nd team to play on the lower fields subserviently to the 1sts.
However - that's just an initial thought and we will obviously try and accommodate everyone's considerations (and the rugby guys might have a different view)

We've discussed this at Ilkley and I believe we are also keen Flaggy.
Thanks Guys. I really hope common sense can prevail with long trips like Scarborough. With Ilkley being our nearest game we will be travelling courtesy of Northern Rail and a five minute walk from the station, or £750 for a bus. Its a no-brainer.
All our other away trips will be in excess (average) of £1000 a frightening thought for us simple Dales folk.
Whilst I empathise with Flaggy's position regarding travel costs, BRB's point is equally valid. Now certain clubs' 2nd XVs are competing in established leagues against other clubs' 1st XVs, why shouldn't said clubs capitalise on the match days? The oppositions (assuming they are already established league clubs), will doubtless be doing the usual income generating things - sponsors and other pre-match lunches; entrance/programme fees etc. Why wouldn't that apply to second teams competing in the leagues in their own right? Piggy backing a second team game on a firsts' may make economic sense from a travel cost perspective, but will devalue the occasion of a 2nd XV league game (on an appropriate pitch and in front of an appropriate crowd).

There's also no requirement to go on a coach. Settle to Scarborough is a 200 mile round trip. At 30p a mile (which more than covers fuel) 6 cars totals £360.
Or hire/borrow a minibus.
I'm only throwing out suggestions to save money. We use both of the options above for all teams - as well as some coaches.

Pleading poverty doesn't really wash when one of your Player Coaches has been shooting their mouth off about their £400 p/w remuneration, simple Dales Folk, really...?
That's some serious wedge...
The cost of entering a 2nd XV into the Yorkshire Leagues should have also been a consideration when choosing to enter.

Never understood the need for a coach every week. Convoy of cars, couple of pit stops on the way back, passengers get their driver a drink each, sorted.
Coach travel to away games is an unnecessary extravagance if a club is cash-strapped. Ripon used a 24 hour 15 seater minibus hire for the away game at Bridlington for £250 plus fuel with two cars for those who couldn't stay out to play. No brainer. Plus the opportunity for those who dared, for a night out in Scarbados. Living la vida loca!

Did a north Yorks club receive substantial money during covid (£50,000 ?) claiming they would probably cease to exist without it ?
If so, anyone know if that money has been repaid ?

Quality players bypassing know paying clubs, to play for lower league teams just for the love of the area, will always raise a few eyebrows or lead to the odd acerbic retort.
