Title: Big news in Lancashire
Post by: Grasser17 on Jun 11, 2026, 04:03 PM
Not Yorkshire related but has anyone seen the news about Macclesfield being relegated from Nat 2 to Regional 1 NW.

to cut a long story short they finished 3rd in Nat 2 north last season but was moved to Nat 2 West for this up coming season due to the number of northern teams at level 4, along with Lymm who are also northern based.

They both requested to be in a 16 team Nat 2 north league to reduce travel but the RFU said No, Mac challenged the decision and so the RFU have relegated them.

Still plenty of unknowns like who now goes in to Nat 2 west and will there be 13 teams in Regional 1 NW ?

I think the RFU have f***ed up big time.

Chairmans comments:

And remember when Bill Sweeney did the roadshows to try and keep his job?
His comment:
"If you can't afford the travel, you're in the wrong league.

Am being told that its a certain dictator who goes by the name of "Terry Burwell" flexing his muscles.
Its a bloody travesty. Think Macclesfield should rally round with other clubs and bring things to a head. This simply cannot continue unabated.
