There have been a huge number of players from across the county put forward for U15s PREM selection.
It's becoming increasingly evident that some clubs appear to view nominations as an allocation of places, rather than an opportunity to put forward players who are genuinely at, or reasonably close to, the standard required.
What's equally concerning is the number of nominated players whose parents happen to be coaches at their respective clubs. In some cases, those nominations will be entirely justified, but in others, the perception of favouritism has understandably caused some disquiet amongst clubs (not my own, I should add!).
I'm not suggesting that coaches shouldn't nominate their own children, provided they're of the appropriate standard, but there does need to be an element of objectivity and fairness in the process.
I'm not sure there's a great deal that can be done about it, other than perhaps Yorkshire reminding clubs that nominations are not an entitlement or an allocation. The expectation should be that players being put forward are genuinely considered capable of competing at, or at least reasonably close to, the required standard.
Ultimately, it's about maintaining the credibility of the selection process and ensuring that the opportunities are going to players on merit.
