Title: Scarborough 3pm kick offs
Post by: backrowbandit on Oct 25, 2026, 07:33 PM
Earlier in the season Scarborough wrote to all clubs who we are playing during the winter hours to inform them that all our home kick offs will be 3pm under lights.

Our lights are fully certified to RFU match standards (unlike Morley's patio floodlights from B&Q).

We wanted to give all clubs lots of notice and this post is to inform any travelling supporters who may not have had the memo.

The advance notice is to avoid the situation Scarborough faced at Hull where we were given a few days notice of a 2pm kick off. We had no problem in principle with an earlier kick off at all.... however hearing in the days leading up to the match was unacceptable. It resulted in Saturday morning school matches having kick off times changed to allow players who are teachers to travel for the game and officials who were intending to attend the pre-match lunch missing it due to the short notice change.

So hopefully everyone knows well in advance and we look forward to welcoming players, officials and supporters from all clubs to Silver Royd for a 3pm kick off.

Not that it would affect us now, but don't both Clubs have to agree ?

Well that's an interesting one....that was our thought. But no...the home team determines the kickoff time between the allowed parameters. They then inform the opposition and referee IN GOOD TIME.

However if the kickoff time then changes again, both clubs must agree.

The regulations are a bit woolly but I'm told this is the common interpretation.

Kick Off
41. All matches shall kick off between 2-3pm (as determined by the home Club). Matches played in November, December, January, and February, shall kick off at a time specified by the Organising Committee. In the event of adverse Weather conditions, matches may kick-off between 1-4pm to allow for multiple matches to be played on Artificial Pitches, at all times at the discretion of the Organising Committee.

42. Kick-off times within a weekend scheduled for a fixture may be varied by mutual agreement between the two teams and the home team must advise the Match Officials of any changes.

43. Matches played in the week (e.g. Thursday or Friday night matches) must have agreement between the two teams prior to the proposed kick-off and the Match Officials. The default kick-off time will be 7pm unless otherwise approved by the Organising Committee.

44. If kick-off is delayed due to adverse travel or injury, wherever possible every effort must be made by the two teams concerned to play the match on the day. This may include the reduction of the playing time and or half/time interval to complete the fixture in the best light conditions. A reduction in playing time is to be agreed by the Match Official.

Besides if any club has an genuine issue and lets us know well in advance I'm sure agreement can be reached.

Just released. Make of it what you will.

KO times for November onwards have just today been published

It remains as previously advised for the remainder of October -
2 pm-3pm home club decides, clocks changing do not change this.

8. Kick Off Times
As per RFU Regulation 6.41 to 6.44:
8.1 Kick of times for September, October, March and April are 2 pm-3pm home club decides, clocks changing do not change this. If local weather conditions require a different kick off time this should be agreed with the clubs. November, December, January and February kick off is normally 2.15pm although around the winter solstice an earlier kick off may be required. In the event of adverse Weather conditions, matches may kick-off between 1-4pm to allow for multiple matches to be
played on Artificial Pitches, at all times at the discretion of the Organising Committee.
8.2 Kick-off times within a weekend scheduled for a fixture may be varied by mutual agreement between the two teams and the home team must advise the Match Officials of any changes. (Please also advise myself)
8.3 Matches played in the week (e.g. Thursday or Friday night matches) must have agreement between the two teams prior to the proposed kick-off and the Match Officials. The default kick-off time will be 7pm unless otherwise approved by the Organising Committee.
8.4 If kick-off is delayed due to adverse travel or injury, wherever possible every effort must be made by the two teams concerned to play the match on the day. This may include the reduction of the playing time and or half/time interval to complete the fixture in the best light conditions. A reduction in playing time is to be agreed by the Match Official.
8.5 Matches played against offshore teams shall kick off at a mutually agreeable time, so that teams may catch their arranged flights.

Money can't buy class. Although, judging by some clubs' priorities, it can buy an (almost) decent first XV long before it buys decent floodlights!

Wise words.

Wiser still if they were applied in the correct context.

Having weak opinions strongly held is not a sign of strength.

Being part of a well-managed, well-resourced, and successful club that is doing well is no reason to cast 'shade'.

I remember playing Scarborough in the late 90s, Yorkshire 2/3, when things were completely different.

Scarborough's current position hasn't happened overnight.

However, to put your current success completely down to 'investing in youth' is disingenuous.

I would say more, however I would come across as bitter where I am anything but.
