Title: Aire-Wharfe Cup
Post by: AlwaysRetiring on Mar 29, 2025, 10:44 AM
Anybody got the draw for the Aire Wharfe Cup?

Thought it would be good to have all results and fixtures posted here as there is no website for this competition.

Good to see some chat still going on - it's been so quiet the past few days, I thought the site had crashed again? looks like a neat competition that, with some potentially stiff competition and not to far to travel.

Is this cup the beginning of wharfedales operation to tap up Northb Ribs better players..?

Hope these rumours aren't true, watched Ribb a couple of times in the last 2 seasons would be a shame to see their local talent head up to Wdale. Hopefully the cost heavy bus trips are enough to convince them to stay.

Be interesting to see how much commitment there is from all clubs to actually fulfill the fixtures? The Yorkshire and Pizza competitions look like a joke now and hardly incentivise clubs to engage in trying to win silverware. Back in the day, a good cup run gave clubs a real morale boost and an actual win was great kudos. Now it seems an embarrassment, which is shame.

There's some suggestion that CBs are going to be given more control over how rugby is managed going forward.

Let's just hope that means a return to 14 team leagues.

Has the competition seen any walkovers?

A local competition, with limited travel. Interesting to see how well it is holding up, as previous seasons it always seems to do well

Just one team out of 12 have given a walkover. Compared to the 50% walkovers in the PJ cup that's pretty good.

Stop fishing BRB. If you put as much effort into advocating 14 team leagues that benefits ALL clubs as you do casting your fly over North Ribb your time would be much better spent.!!

Also the Aire Wharfe cup has a plate comp for first round losers that is equally well supported.
