Title: Wetherby vs Phoenix (replay)
Post by: Yorkshirescout on Mar 30, 2025, 10:21 PM
Ventured down to a windy Grange Park yesterday to watch the rearranged game from last weeks washout between two sides at opposite sides of the league. My first look at both teams. In a game of two halves Wetherby started the brighter of the two sides running in some nice tries against a leaky defence and went into half time with a 40 point lead. Donny turned it round slightly at half time and made the game scrappy, creating some good opportunities and scoring a well deserved consolation try through their impressive hard running 12.

Hopefully Phoenix avoid the drop, but Y1 is a strong league and after yesterdays performance I think they may find it tricky to bounce straight back up. On the other hand it looks like Wetherby will be a force to be reckoned with, their big boys were too much to handle with some quick youngsters in the outside channels and are clearly a well coached outfit who will be aiming to build on this years top 4 finish.

Dont think that Phoenix will be happy to have to drop to Y1 it is not many seasons ago that they were aiming for the national leagues so they could swap players between their squads legally. That now seems a bit of a pipe dream. Lets be honest its a soleless place to have to visit. Glad we wont have to go there next season, maybe.

Not my experience of visiting DP. We went there earlier on in the season and were treated to a full, vibrant clubhouse. We were well hosted both before and after the game and the post match atmosphere was certainly very lively. I didn't notice whether they had any footwear on though!

Huge credit to DP for coming over to us two weeks in a row without whinging about coach hire costs...

Fair Enough. my comments were only based on personal experience after visiting several years ago. Maybe I am doing their present experience an injustice. If so I apologise. Good luck to all relegation avoiders this weekend. However its not a world ending experience, its how clubs and players manage the disappointment that makeths good people.
