Thought I would get the chat & predictions for this early considering both teams in the final are from this league.
York start big favourites for me although you never know in a one off game and I'm sure the Cleck boys will be up for it especially as it is likely to be captain Dickie Piper's last ever game for them.
Think both forward packs will even themselves out but York will have the edge in the backs especially with Cleckheaton missing Hainsworth although they will still pose a threat with Breakwell's boot and the couple of Ex RL Pros Sammut and Brambani.
Just out of interest does anyone know if the York boys who have been selected to play for Yorkshire are choosing that game over the final? Stupid they have to even make that decision in the 1st place but that's the RFU for you!
Its a classic case of the right hand and the left hand not communicating together. I know York have three in the senior squad who will have to choose. We have a lad in the U20s who wants to play for us but feels that if he does he may jeopardise possible selection for the North U20s. It has put him in a personal dilemma, but we as a club support him playing for the county. It is a situation that could be avoided with a bit of forward planning.

According to the county website, County team takes priority. Read into that what you will.
Nobody can force them to play for the county. Surely it must be an individual choice. Rarely will York players get the chance of playing in the final of the "Owd Tin Pot" but would still be eligible for county selection on other games or next season. That is if the powers that be didnt exercise their power and not select on grounds of "Misguided loyalty".
I thin that York might just have the edge in this game. However, Cleck are always able to spring a surprise.
Congratulations to Heath for winning the Papa Johns Plate final 33-22 v Bracknell last Saturday

They will get a lot of chances in the coming years as this is the level that it has moved to.
Congratulations to York in their nervy but deserved victory in the Final yesterday.
The Yorkshire Cup is not as prestigious in the eyes of the Yorkshire committee which speaks volumes of those who are supposed to lead this great county in all things rugby union.
But it is history in the making and will be fondly remembered by those took part and watched.
Yorkshire should be ashamed of themselves, but no doubt they will all have lame excuses and sloping shoulders, with no one taking responsibility for the debacle of six weeks inactivity after the end of the season, to fit in with their incompetence
How can we so easily shoot ourselves in the foot??

I understand the question was asked.

Yes congratulations to York I thought it was a good game and York were deserved winners in the end. Not for the 1st time Cleckheaton's discipline let them down again with 2 yellows and a red card!

To be fair to the committee, most were at the County double header. Fixtures confirmed long before someone thought it a good idea to have the County Cup finals on the same day without clearing it with central office.
I aren't surprised by that. They dusted down a previous president to award their prestigious trophy's whilst they all had their noses in the trough at Hull.
Very poor leadership

So you think the Committee members should just ignore the County teams because York were in the Cup Final?
Look at the detail. why, you could even bother yourself to read the County meeting minutes.
DA I have to come in and stand up for our current President.
Last Saturday he attended the value the volunteer event prior to the U20 game where he then gave his time up and helped select for the North U20 group, all before enjoying watching the senior men's team.
Many of your current players at York have developed under the stewardship of our current President and he should be applauded for his time and efforts in this field.
That's his job!

Bully for him!!
Did he have to pay to get into the game?
I very much doubt it!
Did he have purchase his own food?
I very much doubt it.
The President of York RUFC had to pay his way into the ground and buy his own food! Which I must admit tickled me. But as the President of the Yorkshire Cup finalists, you would have thought he might have been afforded that courtesy.
The point I make is that having screwed up, the Yorkshire committee should have ensured a current senior member of the committee was present at their own prestige club event.
Instead of filling their faces at Hull.
As somebody who gave up 16 years coaching teams for the benefit of the players and Yorkshire rugby with never claiming anything, nor wanting to. It's those who are in it for their own gain, self esteem and freebies, that stick in my throat!
I suspect wives and families or these free loaders were also catered for in their free for all.
DAA - I think there are two separate issues.
I don't think anyone (including on the YRFU committee)would claim that the planning and coordination of the different matches was good. Even if there was extenuating circumstances it was still pretty average.
However I cannot agree with your point about the different Yorkshire volunteers being freeloaders, scroungers and only in it for themselves.
I agree the officials should have been spread across both venues but I have no idea if this was the case or not.
I don't always agree with everything the Yorkshire RFU do, but I do believe all of the individuals are there acting with the best intentions and trying their utmost to promote the game of rugby in Yorkshire. Many of them will be successful in their own right in their employment or businesses and they will not be motivated by a free lunch and a pint of beer.
When someone volunteers for the next level up from a club they don't have the same natural affinity and affection to a venue or a group of players. Therefore I have even more respect for people who volunteer for an intangible organisation like the Yorkshire RFU. I doubt they get much thanks and they are probably attacked constantly.
You can have a different opinion and it is entirely your right to express it, but I think you do yourself a disservice by attacking personally the people who step forward and volunteer.
Well said BRB. There is always a vacancy for people of vision and willingness to step up and help out. Can we expect DAA to answer the call and show how it is done i wonder?
Probably not!
Let's just agree to disagree and move on.
It was funny though, about our President having to pay his own entry.
To watch the club he has been president of for 19years, in their inaugural Yorkshire Cup final.
A memory, he will no doubt, have trouble leaving behind.

How were the volunteer gatemen supposed to know they were dealing with such a venerable visitor?

No different to previous. Including the cup committee queing at the cafe counter to buy their own, same as the rest of us.
Each team were given thirty tickets for players etc, which included entrance and something to eat. Whilst that may not be enough for a rising giant such as York, how many freebies do you think it is reasonable to distribute.
I paid to get in and was happy to do so, as nothing is for nothing in life. Its a pity that a president of nineteen years standing is not one of the most 30 important people at York.
Get over it DAA. I am sure your president is a wholly decent bloke with a few quid and probably thought the entrance fee was well worth watching Yorks first ever winning of the "Owd Tin Pot".

Patrons/Members of YRFU normally get free entry to the finals as part of their annual subscription. As i understand it, this was not the case this year, due i think to the Stadium controlling entry in lieu of charging YRFU a fee for use of the ground.

Hopefully the lessons learned and won't be repeated going forward...............
Don't hold your breath.
