crash ball

Maybe it felt like the wind was blowing across the pitch from the balcony, but in reality, it was blowing diagonally toward the castle end. You could tell by how few kicks there were when playing toward the scoreboard end.

As for the word "lucky", that never appeared in my post. What I said was that Scarborough were fortunate that certain infringements weren't picked up by the referee. That's not a criticism. I actually think he's one of the best referees at this level. He simply can't give what he doesn't see, and that's where fortune plays its part.

I saw no evidence of Morley being "taken to pieces" in the second half. The lack of visits to Morley's 22 after the break (only two in total), and the fact that only one try was scored, doesn't support the idea that Morley were dominated for long periods.Scarborough still conceded 24 points in the game. The simple truth is that Scarborough were pinned back inside their own half for much of the second period.

I gave my honest assessment of the match. That's how I saw it, even if you don't agree. Morley's first-half performance was poor: there was little cohesion in defence, players fell off tackles, and their game management was virtually non-existent. In the second half, though, they improved and had the majority of possession but were denied by a good defensive effort. Hopefully, Morley will address those issues during the week and build on that progress next Saturday.

I also think it's unfair to suggest that your team didn't try in the second half. I saw plenty of effort and commitment from them — but, like Morley in the first half, they struggled to cope with the conditions.

I agree Morley were out of sorts and as I said earlier I expect there will be a big reaction this week.

I've spoken to a few people about the wind and every one has given a different direction they thought it was blowing 🤣.

Who have they got this weekend?

Cracking Game at Brods, last minute try from the 17 year old debut winger!

Let's forget all the chat about the wind at Scarborough and ask the important question - who are Morley paying to design their match shirts?

You mean the Hitler Youth shirts??

Morley were wearing their away kit, which explains the absence of sponsor logos. This was simply to avoid a colour clash, as Morley's traditional home colours are maroon. I'm looking forward to seeing Scarborough's away kit when they visit Morley.

Regarding the comment, "You mean the Hitler Youth shirts??" — that was an unfortunate choice of words. Drawing such a comparison to Morley Rugby Club, its players, or supporters is inappropriate and unhelpful. I'm sure it wasn't intended to cause offence, but it does detract from the positive and respectful atmosphere we all value on this forum.

Forty Twenty

The 40m maul which in reality was about 20 (still a huge distance) came from Moortown not being able to kick the ball away due to the wind - a recurring theme of the whole first half. I found out after the game from a fellow rugby enthusiast the Moortown captain chose to play into the wind in the first half a desicion which baffles me as i was certainly always taught to play with the wind as you never know what could happen to it as the game goes on. As for the rest of the game the Wetherby forwards are huge and the Moortown backs managed to get on the outside of them a couple of times and looked dangerous running from deep in their own half. Ultimately would Moortown have got a result in the 2nd half probably not - but there was definitely plenty of time to get back into the game and perhaps for them to get a bonus point or 2. The Wetherby 12 also kicked excellently in open play which was a large reason for their success i think he was rewarded with a try after wetherby were camped on the Moortown line for 10 minuets
Quote from: BigBadWolf69 on Oct 05, 2025, 12:09 PMThe wind must have given them that extra push for the 40m maul? I feel that putting the score difference at half time purely down to the wind is whimsical.

I have no doubt the rearranged fixture will be a different game but yesterday the gulf in the first half was quite big.

Wetherby had 40 mph wind behind them first half, Moortown did well to sta in contest but their own errors cost them min defence. The second half would've been interesting especially with the wind continu

No offence intended at all and apologies if it was taken that way. It was a lighthearted comment reflecting the humorous observation of a number of people on Saturday that your away shirt bore a striking resemblance to a German sports kit/uniform from several decades ago! (Due to it's colour and design!) Nothing more than that....

Scarborough have two changes of kit both fully logoed up. We would have happily changed shirts had you come in your maroon ones. In fact we were playing in our 3rd change kit already, the pink ladies day version.

Anyhow be assured Crash Ball, it was only a bit of fun 👍

Or was the 40m maul from the sheer brilliance of the Wetherby hooker to stay in it and control from the back...
