Quote from: Locked Out on Nov 15, 2025, 12:07 AMAnd there's Ripon dragging geriatrics out of care homes to don the blue hoops and boots again to make sure they field two teams and don't disappoint the visitors.

That's what it's all about.

All joking aside I'm very very surprised and I have say rather disappointed that North Ribb (a club I think the world of) has not made an effort to fulfil a fixture in a competition they chose to enter.

I do not accept that they couldn't get a team out.

Remember last year Scarborough had 50 players overseas on tour and we had an away semifinal in the Midlands.

We sent 3rd team players, older colts and vets knowing that we would get smashed but it was a matter of honour to fulfil the fixture.

I completely understand that 2nd and 3rd team matches get cancelled when clubs genuinely run out of players for a weekend (including us), But not 1st XV games.

Anyhow that's my thoughts

You're right BRB, that's what it's all about.

Gents,
its no surprise that I am getting stick for our not playing Huddersfield on Saturday.
Just been doing some research and it seems we are in decent company. Especially from the Pock boys who really are calling the "Kettle Black" as the most consistent "not playing club in Yorkshire" these last three seasons.
Listed below is a list of clubs from 22-23 season to today who have given walkovers in the cup and shield. Figures off the YRFU website'
CUP
Malton and Norton x2
Selby
Heath x2
Moortown
Bridlington
D.Phoenix
Sandal
Cleckheaton
Middlesborough
Guisborough
Morley

Shield
Dinnington
Pocklington x3
Hullensians x2
Pythons
Keighley x2
Wetherby x2
Baildon x2
Ossett
Hemsworth
Wath
RIPON
Rishworthians x2
Redcar
Vandals
Wensleydale
Bramley
Acklam x2

Personally nobody is more disappointed than me that we didnt give it a go but think its a bit rich that many on here have been guilty of the same with Pock being the top of the absconders. The only clubs represented on here that have not done the same are, I think, Salem Driffield and Scarbs which, I believe gives them the right to be critical.
I am certain that Mr Locked simply cannot remember Ripons withdrawal due to his age and very cloudy memory. Anyway I know there will be howls of derision from some but I just wanted to make the point.

He's alive!

Good to have you back Flaggy.

I don't think anyone from Pock was criticizing you or the club for conceding the fixture, that would make us hypocrites, wouldn't it?

Personally, I can fully understand why the most consistent "non paying club in Yorkshire" has prioritised the league as the next round of fixtures could see you lose ground on Sandbach and IOM, who've a game in hand too.

Good luck for the big game on Saturday mate, I genuinely hope that you guys win and justify the decision that was made.

I can't argue with any of that Flaggy - but the reason I'm disappointed is that I thought your club was of the same attitude as Scarborough, Driffield etc ...

Don't know why you're being like this Flaggy? Gutted.  :'(

BRB
We are similar to Scarbs but having lost 5 senior players in a week we didnt want to risk another barrage of injuries by playing against a team at the 2nd top of the league above with the league leaders next up at on Saturday at Ribb. It really is as simple as that. No offence taken from anybodys comments but some of the derogatory comments have been from posters associated with clubs as, or more guilty than us. Thats it.

Ribbflagman

Locked any comments on the Four Rec cards in the 3rd team fixture on Saturday. Our lads are saying it was a shakespearean experience "Much ado about nothing".

Derogatory comments that wouldn't have been made, had you not been so critical of others in the past.

Best of luck on Saturday Flaggy and for the rest of the season, a shame we ended up in different leagues this year as both matches last season were enjoyable and Grove park, one of the best away grounds I've been too for atmosphere and welcome.

Flaggy I might be in your neck of the woods next week (or relatively close by). If my sons school U14s win their national cup match this afternoon they are away to Sedbergh School next week in the next round. 🤞

Locked Out

Sorry Flaggy, not close enough to the action to get the lowdown on "Cardgate", but anecdotal feedback I picked up on Sunday concurred with your lads' view. Looking at the 3rd team Ripon fielded, I suspect it was more to do with over-officiousness from the man in the middle.
