Locked Out

What a ding - dong, ying and yang cracker it was at Chaffers Field, Otley; where Old Otliensians squeaked a 45 - 38 win over Ripon. Both sides had strengths to exploit - OOs with their speed to the breakdown and general pace of play for 80 minutes. Not to mention the speed merchant Wing who was a menace but eventually got under control. Ripon had a good set piece but ran out of support options in attack and either got turned over or penalised for holding on.

A thrilling and high scoring game in which both teams gave everything and neither looked like pulling away significantly. Can't see OOs slipping up much for the rest of the season, but it all comes down to having consistently available personnel, so could be a title contender if they can keep this pacey squad together. Ripon need to look at player availability and game plan management if there's a hope of getting up into the top three again.

Dropped It

Vandals were their own worst enemy yesterday. Let in 2 very soft tries within the first ten minutes and then a  well worked try just at the end of the first half to leave it 0-21 at half time.

Then after a full hair dryer from the coach Van decided to turn up and got the score back to 17-21 with 90 secs left. In pushing hard to get a win the ball was turned over in midfield and Brid took full advantage getting the ball wide fast and going over the line with the last attack of the game.

Credit to Brid they can switch it on in a second. From a Vandals point of view we're not a million miles away. When we put it all together we will win more than we lose. If we don't we'll lose more than we win. Onwards and upwards! UTV.

Belter of a game which neither team deserved to lose.

A draw would have been a fair result.
