Locked Out

Cheers Flaggy, I will be accompanying our 1st XV squad to Brightlington on Sea tomorrow and staying with a few interested parties to enjoy the cultural mores of Scarbados for the night. So sorry, I will miss the chance for you to put your hand in your pocket.

I expect that our respective 2nd XVs will have a good tussle as usual and that rugby is the winner.

Best wishes for the end of this season and next - onwards and upwards and who knows... maybe the chance to play in Yorkshire again?

Roundhegians pooping the promotion party at Otliensians and making it three-way final round fight. You'd expect Otliensians and Brid to still be favourites against Vandals (H) and Northallerton (A) respectively but certainly keeps things interesting!

Locked Out

Ripon started slowly against a strong and well-drilled Brid on Saturday and gradually eased their way in for a 15 - 12 half time deficit. With a couple of key positions lacking their normal personnel, Ripon struggled to use their copious possession well and despite Brid conceding over twice as many penalties and suffering a yellow card; couldn't turn what pressure they could muster into points. A stronger second half gave Brid a commanding lead and the try bonus point was inevitable. Congratulations to Brid on promotion, looking well and truly like a Y1 club and should thrive again up there.

The changes "they" are trying to push through seems counter intuitive to promoting grass roots rugby and keeping the smaller teams viable.

HandsInTheRuck

OO Vs Hegians was a strange game to witness. OO plauged with a few injuries after the Ossett game.

Both teams putting everything into the defensive aspect, a very physical emotional game, which unfortunately was certainly brought down to a very slow level due to the man in the middle. It had everything to be a fast open game. but it just wasn't allowed at all- He struggled to keep up with as everyone can imagine, the fastest game in the league.

Red Card for Hegians prop after a very gormless spear tackle on the fly half, which then lead to Roundhegians going to an uncontested scrum.  Unfortunately the man in the middle did not implement the rule where Hegians had to drop a man as they were no longer able to contest in the scrums, which ended up being a major factor in the game - as this gave them a free uncontested platform to work off. In the defensive, they just dropped their 9 into the back line.

OO could have taken more chances, and the two chances that Hegians got, they took. 2 tries held up for OO, but the man in the middle was not really keeping up with play.

But to summarise, on the Day Hegians did what they needed to do to win and it paid off for them.

A very tight top 3, which is very exciting for the last game of the season.

Good Luck and what a great season for all!

Fatfrontrow

A good summary - apart from the one major omission. at the time of the red card (also very good to see the OO player pass the medical checks and be able to continue playing for the remainder of the game) the other Hegians prop was injured and was replaced by the substitute front row player. therefore Hegians had to go to uncontested scrums and as per the regulations at this level they do not have to lose a player! The best team won on the day.

Where did you get that info in the regs about not having to play with a player down(ie 13)?
