Yorkshire Rugby

I frequently head down to Far Moss and watch the town lads play. Town appear to have a fairly young squad at the minute with lots of players who have come through the junior section and now between the ages of 18-24 with a couple of older heads scattered in. I was pleasantly surprised to see Selby's backline looked fairly similar to that of Moortown being full of youth and a lot of running the ball - made for a very good watch of a game.

Interested in hearing about other squads in our league and whether we think age and maturity potentially has an impact on how consistently teams perform.

Wetherby's average age has been very low.

On Saturday they had:

FR - 20
BR - 21&22
9 - 18
11 - 21
12 - 18
14 - 20
17&18&19 - 22&22&18

The 12 faced up against 2 ex NRL players and came away with man of the match.

I'll have to work that one out for Scarborough. We have a number of teenagers up to some players in their 30s. Probably a good mix - but when I'm back I'll post a breakdown.

Lets be honest it is now a young mans game. Now that "Thwaity" has retired at 58, our average age is down to about 24/25.

Morley have a very young squad overall with only a couple of players in their 30s.

What has been useful over the last few years is developing home-grown talent and letting them gain some first-team experience with many still in their early 20s with over 50 caps for the club. If we can hang on to them for the long term then I would say the future is bright. However, we all know that when other clubs further up the pyramid come calling, it is often difficult for players to stay put.
