A few sides involved in league or cup action this week. Hullensians need to take just 1 point from their game to avoid relegation. Yarnbury need to beat Goole to overtake them in 3rd place. Cup games and post regular season fixtures are always an absolute lottery in terms of player availability so anything could happen!

Yorkshire Shield Semi Final
Harrogate Pythons v Ripon
(Wednesday 7.30pm @ West Park Bramhope)

Counties One Yorkshire
West Leeds v Hullensians
Yarnbury v Goole

Counties One North Plate Quarter Final
New Brighton v Wath upon Dearne

Pythons 53 - 33 Ripon

Ripon started well and finished well but not enough. For me there is a big difference between Y1 and Y2 and that showed in the end. Looking forward now to a difficult final against Wath on 23rd May

Locked Out

Congratulations to Pythons for the emphatic win and all the best for the final.

A testing game for Ripon in terms of converting steady first phase possession into fast attacking play. That's where Pythons were at their best and most clinical. A big difference in pace to and at the breakdown showed the gulf between Y1 and Y2 in terms of physicality and game management.

Ripon did their best under the circumstances and had their two best players not been injured and removed after just 20 minutes, might things have been different? Who knows but would have made for a lesser points margin at least.

Cheers to Gaters and all the best for the final and next season.

I'm not sure the gap is as big as some make out, teams tend to be a bit bigger and more organised but in the last couple of seasons sides promoted from Y2 have been promoted again; North Ribb and Dinno. It's also rare for a promoted team to be relegated the following season; I really thought Yawno would struggle but they've finished top four and teams like Pythons have become stalwarts of the league.

Maybe it's because we had back to back promotions and Yorkshire One caught up with us then. I feel like in Y1 pretty much every side is fitter, more organised, has a better set piece and is a lot more clinical than you get at Y2.

I Maybe shouldn't ask this out of respect for either team but who would folks rather see in Yorkshire 1 next season, Bev or Hullensians?

I'm saying Beverley

Ribbflagman

Beverley have always been a very welcoming club, However I must say that last years lunch at Hullensians was one of the best we have encountered (in their temporary marquee) anywhere. The chairmans cheesboard available to us after the final whistle was remarkable, but I have drunk finer Port on occasion. Both very welcoming clubs and it would be a shame to lose one of them but thats life in leagues. Good luck to both.

The Lurker

I've always received a warm welcome at Bev, some of the best post match grub I've had. Both good clubs who I'm sure will bounce back.

Whilst we've got you flaggy any truth in the rumour going around you've been stripped of the merit league title for playing ineligible players in the games vs Ripon and the final?

Jeez, are Yarnbury still whinging about that?
The way some of their entourage behaved that should be the least of their worries.
"Bother!" said Pooh, as he found his smack had talc in it.

Bit contentious was it? Not really two clubs I'd immediately think of when it comes to trouble in the stands...

New Brighton 12 - 51 Wath upon Dearne
Yarnbury 31 - 32 Goole
West Leeds 38 - 37 Hullensians

That's at least one BP for Hullensians so enough to keep them up and send Beverley down.

Ribbflagman

Unlucky Yarnbury, I am sure you will complain that Goole had some new players playing who shouldnt have been in the forlorn hope of getting the result overturned.

Unlucky Flaggy, they had their annual fishing trip to Reykjavík as the Yarnbury anglers, so they've had to field a much depleted squad at a very tough stage of the season. But full respect to Goole for a very good contest.

ps have you sent the trophy back yet??

Such a classy response, I can see why your campaign to stop second teams entering the league was so successful...

I would like to issue a full and sincere apology to all my fellow grass-root supporters at Yarnbury for my negligent mis-statements regards the results this weekend as well as the previous Merit League Play-Offs where we unfortunately misinterpreted the regulations put in place for both the SF and Final.
