Sad news from the coast. Colin will be well known to many older rugby folk across Yorkshire. 😪

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT

Colin Rennard

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colin Rennard following a very short illness.

Colin was a true legend of Scarborough Rugby Club and a hugely respected figure throughout the rugby community across the region.

Over many decades, Colin served the Club with extraordinary dedication, holding numerous positions including player, Club Captain, Committee Member, President, Board Member, Vice President and, most recently, Centenary Vice President.

Colin served as Club President for 6 years from 2003 through to 2009, during the period leading up to our relocation to Silver Royd and played an instrumental role in helping the Club make the move to its new home.

His commitment to Scarborough RUFC continued long after the move, and he remained an active member of the Board of Directors until just a few months ago.

At our most recent AGM, Colin was awarded Honorary Life Membership in recognition of his outstanding contribution and decades of devoted service to Scarborough Rugby Club.

Rugby was a lifelong passion for Colin, and his love for the game extended far beyond Scarborough Rugby Club. He embraced rugby in all its forms and at every level, taking a keen interest in the sport wherever it was played. Whether watching, supporting, discussing or contributing to the game, Colin's enthusiasm was unwavering. It was an integral part of his life, and his knowledge, passion and dedication to the sport will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Marilyn and the rest of his family at this difficult time.

Funeral details will be shared once they become available.

RIP Colin
Loving all rugby but especially at grassroots level.

Very sad to hear about Colin.

I had many conversations with him when our teams met and I enjoyed his company.

I used to collect him from the train station to bring him to our clubhouse.

There aren't many people with his dedication left. He will be missed.

RIP  Colin

Are you sure you're not mixing him up with Colin Adamson - I suspect you were more likely to pick him up from the station.

Colin Adamson has just had a time in hospital with sepsis/cellulitis.... however he recovered well and is back at it.

Loving all rugby but especially at grassroots level.

Rugby01

Yes, I was thinking of Mr. Adamson.
Thank you for putting me right.

I know him only as "Colin".

I'll apologise to CA personnally for announcing his premature demise.

Kellythorpe

Played against Colin and also refereed him for YRS.
RIP.
Sat by his sister week last Sat at lunch, he was obviously alive then because I asked about him. So came as a real surprise and also to Ross Weeks at Driff who played against him many times and asked if I had seen him.

I believe he was at the match....if not blue certainly was at the Ilkley match...

Just had to reregister to post this as I played with Colin for many years. He made rugby a serious but fun event. Colin was a decent player, a larger than life character and utterly unforgettable by everyone who ever toured with him.
I couldn't describe the respect all of his teammates had for him in those playing years. I know he was Scarborough through and through as can be seen by his other committee work and his pride in all that's been achieved since the Scalby Rd days.
I left Scarborough due to work and then played for Brods for many years, hopefully taking with me some of Colin's spirit and enthusiasm for the game. I'm very proud to have known him, delighted to have played, drunk beer and been associated with this gentle giant of a man. We will rarely see his like again sadly.
My commiserations to Marilyn and his wider family and to our game. We have said goodbye to a great man.
