Quote from: Ribbflagman on Feb 14, 2026, 07:44 PMNot the Pock outfit that lost in a tight game at Ribb last year. They were very magnanimous in defeat and stopped with us for ages As far as I am aware they have always, in the past, stopped and had a few beers irrespective of the result. IMO they are known as a good attending club unless someone on here can tell me otherwise.

Cracking game that was Flaggy, proper contest in front of a big crowd

Quote from: Hot Stepper on Feb 15, 2026, 04:32 PMCan't be true unfortunately Carl. The proper rugby clubs like Pocklington, Scarborough and North Ribb always stay for three days after an away game, putting thousands over opposition bars.

And as for their hosting...

Hey - don't bring Scarborough into this fight! We are far from perfect but we bring lots of folk to away games, pay on the gate and spend plenty of ££.

So leave us out of it please! But by all means attack other clubs 😂😂😂

I can't believe I'm about to defend you lot BRB, but in my experience, when The Scarborough Globetrotters were in town, it was a great atmosphere in the clubhouse afterwards.

I'll take it when it's offered 😂

Forty Twenty

An Extract from Salem's match report which otherwise is well written:

"Late effort in vain as Salem lose crucial game at home to Moortown
In Christian Baines, Misi Taulapapa, Jorge Taufua and Conor Wood, Salem have 4 of the hardest tacklers in the league. However, on Saturday against Moortown, their reputations seemed to work against them as all 4 received yellow cards for debatable high tackles. In fact, there is a strong feeling in the Salem camp that referees are becoming increasingly influenced by the opposing crowd's reaction to high impact challenges that are perfectly legal."

Can anyone at the game provide insight into the above mentioned decisions?

Funny you should mention this Forty Twenty , I'd just seen this on Instagram earlier.

Thoughts anyone?

MaulByMyself

I wasn't there but I can guarantee the tackles by Baines and Wood were definitely high

That is a dangerous no arms shoulder barge and has no place in rugby union. It is a clear yellow and in a tiny number of referees it would have been a red.

If they don't want to play by our sports laws then they can b*gger off back to league and take a pay cut!

Without a shadow of doubt it's a 'no arms' tackle with not even an attempt to wrap, which is then exacerbated by what appears to be a 'flop' onto the player who is on the floor.
Both offences are quite OK in League, but have absolutely no place in Union. Could be why League is hemorrhaging players.

I don't think rugby has gone soft I think we are now taking much more responsibility for player safety/welfare and understand that we all have to go to work on Monday.

The good old days always rekindle a warm glow in our cockles, however that warm glow is only provided by the rose tinted lenses we're using.

Attempts to injure an opponent intentionally or not quite rightly should be outlawed.

It was a very physically contested game, one which was played certainly with contrasting styles. Despite the high penalty count I thought it was reffed very well. The high card count, four to one I think (ours for a deliberate knock on) was down to players not listening, not adjusting to what the official saw as the line of height. Regrettably I think we took nine high shots in that game, all effectively penalised and four attracting cards. Like BRB says, these are the laws in Union......you don't have to play. None of the "gram worthy" shots were necessary but got the "photo" moment of their intent. It's a shame as the pre match hospitality, excellent pitch considering the weather and the Salem lads obvious desire to play is for the most part being scuppered by a recruitment drive and consequential instruction to hurt people.

I think the last time I was at a discipline panel two members of such reminded our club about the "core values of the game". Im sure they were watching Saturday with blazers on.

The flop after shows the players intent, Jim.

I wouldn't describe any of them as good tacklers.. From what I've seen they miss more than they make in search of a "big hit". Give away numerous penalties and have no doubt cost Salem some points this season.

cynic

He tried to wrap both arms are wide and extended not 'tucked' as you often hear from the dreadful TMOs that are ruining the professional game.

The tackle height is fine, he blindsided the player with his impeccable timing so the ball carrier is fired to the floor before he has chance to wrap his arms around him

cynic

Not one Moortown player reacts to the tackle. A dangerous tackle would see at least one player take exception to the challenge

Range

What's your explanation for the flop on top afterwards then? He looks like he's dropping into a kids ball pool!
